States.— The news of the certainty of Mr. Jefferffin’s being eleftedto that appointment reached this place about 10 o’clock—at one, Captain Shdlman’s company of Artillery, attended by a nume rous collection of Citizens, par aded in the State Houfe Square, sad fired Sixteen Rounds in tok en of the- grateful fenfations of the.Citizens'of this place for fo glorious an event; —At night e very houfe in the town was il luminated —which, though it ex hibited a feene the moftpleafing, and expreffive of the joy of the inhabitants, fell far ffiort of that depided upon their countenan, scs throughout the day.
