LOUISVILLE,
I ATUSVAX', 14, 1801.
From good authority, we are
author! fed to fay, that John
Milledge, Efq. is a candidate
for Congrefe, in the room of
James Jones, eJq. deceafed.
Mr- Welch Thomas, now
living in the County of Mont
gomery (flate of Georgia) 1
lived to fee three centuries,
being born in the 17th, lived
through cite 18th, and now fees
the 19th. Mr. Thomas is a
native of Wales ; he is 126
years old—confequently muft
have been born in the reign of
Charles die 2d —he has then
outlived Charles, James the 2d,
William the 3d, Queen Anne,
Geonre the ill and George the

-2d —Six Sovereigns, Monarchs
cr Dcfpots of England —He is
now flruggling with George the
3d —May lie gain the vfelory,
and live to fee Kings quite out
of fafhion —this no doubt is
Mr. Thomas’s defign, (at lead
Ills wif i) for he is a republican.
The voice of the people has
prevailed, and Thomas Jef
ferson is declared by the re
prefentatives of the people to
be duly eh. Ted Prefldent ol the
Un it' a ' t di •- . It follows, from
the direction of the conflitution,
that Aaron Burr is defied
Vice Prefident.
In addition to the many evi
dences of the fuperiority of
republican inftitutions overthofe
of the monarchic or ariflocratic
form, this honorable regard to
the public will, exprefled with
calir.uefs and intrepidity will
produce an impreflion on the
minds of the people of Ameri
ca, flronger than that attempted
*to be made by the unceafing
culogifts of other fyflems.
Tothofe unfounded reproach

ample of a people of five mil
lions, fcattered over a wide ex
tent of country, peaceably deal
ing a chief magiflratc, and the
reprefentatives of that people,
conftitutionally confirming the
national will.
Will not this memorable ex
ample demonllrate to every ci
tizen, who heretofore doubted
it, that the will of a people en
lightened as are the people of
America, is as fufceptible of
precife and unequivocal expref
fion as that of an hereditary

Among the pretty g : rls of the
prefent age, it is a general com
plaint, that they have many ad
mirers, but a few r lovers. I am
forry to obferve that there is too
much juflice m this complaint - y
it is a truth not to be denied.—
They feel the mortification and
wonder at it. They would not
wonder if they thought—but
they are in general fuperlor to
thinking. <c Ah!” laid a vene

was young ! —The flirts new-a

a rcfpedlful lover.”
The obfervation was juft—
