A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS in and by an

to repeal an Ordinance, paftVd
at Augulla, th« 26th of January,
2786, fo far as rclpe&s the fixing
Che Scat of the Univerfity of this
(late ; and an Acl for the more
full and complete clUblifhment
of a Public Seat of Learning in
this (late. To far as tefpeds the
appointment of Trufiees, palled
at Savannah the 27th of janmry,
and to appoint a Board
of Trullces, and to define the
Boa d of ViGtors, and to fix on
a permanent Seat (or the Lid
Univerfity palled the sth day
of December, in the year eigh
teen hundred, it is ena&ed—
“ That Abraham Baldwin, Hugh
Lawfon, Benjamin Taliaferro,
Jofeph Clay, jun. James Jack
fon, (ohn Twiggs John Clarke,
[of Wilkes) the Rev. Robert M,
Cunningham, John Milledge,
Jofiah Tatnall, jun. Ferdinand
O’Neal, John Stewart, and
James M'Neil, fball compofe
the Hoard of Truftecs ; whole
duly it (hall be to cany this sn
flitution completely into effeft."
And it is further enabled—
<( That the Governor, the Judges
of the Superior Courts, the Pre
fidrntof the Senate, the Speaker
of the Houle of Representatives,
and the Senators fiom the differ
ent Counties (except the Coun
ties in which the Governor, the
Judges, the Prcfident of the Se
nate, and Speaker of the Houle
of Kcprcfentatives for the time
being (ball refide) fball form a
Board of Vifitors, whofe duty
it (hall be to fupeiintend and
fegulatc the literature of this
{late ; and in particular of the
Public Seat of 1 earning."
And whereas the General Af
fcmbly paffed a joint refolution
authorizing and empowering the
Governor to ilfue his proclama
tion, requiring the members of
the Scnatus Academicus of the
Univerfity of Georgia, to con
vene at Louifville, between the
terms of the Superior Courts,
Co take under their confideration
and adopt luch meafures as may
bed promote the obje&s of that
inflitutioa—“ And that body at

during the fitting of (he lafl
Legiflaturc, having fixed upon
Job ah Meigs, efq. then profeflbr
of Yale College, in the ftatc of
Connecticut, as prefiding pro
fellor of the Univerfity of the
flatc of Georgia, who gratefully
attentive to the call has arrived
