he Shall deem it expedient, to
organife and eftablifh a corps of
engineers, to con lift of one en -
gineer, with the pay, rank and
emoluments of a major j two

tains ; two other affiftant engi
ned s, with the pay, rank and
emoluments of firft lieutenants - n
two other affiftant engineers,
with the pay, rank and emolu
ments of ftcond lieutenants ;
and ten cadets, w th the pay of
lixtccn dollars per month, and
two rations per day: and the
[ Prefidcnt of the United Scares
is, in like manner, authorifed,
when he ihall deem it proper,
to make fuch promotions in the
laid corps, with a view to par
ticular rmrir, and without re
gard to rank, fo as not to exceed
one colonel, one lieutenant co
lonel, two majors, four captains,
four firft lieutenants, four itcond
lieutenants, and fo as that the
number of the whole corps
fliall, at no time, exceed twen
ty officers and cadets.
Sec. 27. And he it further
enattedy That the faid corps,

Sec. 28. And he it further

tary academy, under the direc
tion of the President of the U

of war is hereby authorifed,
