The petition of James Stille,
a captain in the United States
regiment of artillery, and late
commanding officer of the gar
rison of Weft Point, praying to
be indemnified for the cods
and damages of a line inftituted
againft him in New-York, for
a treSpaSs committed by a part
of his company in the neigh
bourhood of the garriSon of
Weft Point, on the oh July
iSco, without the knowledge
or confent of the petitioner,
was read, and referred to the
committee of claims.
The petition of James Dou
gherty and others, of the MiffiS
fippi territory, praying that a
certain trad of land in laid ter
ritory may be granted to Amos
} tubbard, and Ebenezer Smith,
as tenants in common, was read
and referred to Me firs. Davis,
Green and Dennis.
Tuefdayy 'December 14.
A meflage was received from
the Senate, informing the houfe
that they had made a quorum,
and had chol'en Stef hen R. brad
ley prefident pro tempore, in the
abfence of the vice-prcfident of
the United States, and were
ready to proceed to bufinels.
On motion of Mr. Davvfon,
refolved, that a committee be
appointed on the part of this
houfe, to unite with a commit
tee on the part of the fenate, to
wait upon the prefident of the
United States, and inform him
that the two houfes have formed,
and are ready to receive any
communication he may be pleat
ed to make to them.
Mr. Dawfon, Mr. Lowndes,
and Mr. Van Nefs, appointed
the committee.
A mefthge was received from
the fenate, advifing the houfe,
that they had palled a Similar re
solution, and had appointed on
their part a committee, confid
ing of Mr. Wright, and Mr.
Theodore Fofter.
Mr. Green preTented a num
ber of petitions from citizens of
the MilTiflippi territory, praying
that the land office, to be open
ed, may be within the limits of
the territory, and that the adlual
Settlers may have pre-emption
rights extended to them; and
praying for Sundry alterations in
the terms of the ordinance,
under which they are organised.

underftood that at the Same
