REID'S IMPROVED INDEPENDENT
A NEW and improved itid pendent patent TRI SS,
.im. for I ho immediate and permanent r*-li< 1‘, and probable
cure, of those who are afflicted with I \(»IIV AI«. Scro
tal, and liHBILIC'U HERNIA or RAPTURE.
Thu Truss rnquirrs neither belt, strap, buckle. ii*>r
any other appendage to make it retain it a proper place. 1*
will answer equally well fir both sr\cb. It w ill not pro-1
vtnt attention to ordinary business; neitlter \*i!i it uroveut
dressing in the most iitshiouahle manner. Its application
produces no pain, and will entirely prevent the protrusionol'
th* intestine*
The following extracts are from a report of a committee
..r the Medical .Society of Augusta, Georgia:
“’ilie committee have had pinned m their hands the cer
tificate of two of Mr. Ili id's patients, and the statements
Concerning the application of the Truss to live others, uiai;- I
ing in all seven eases. From some of the patients residing
out of the city, we have been able to examine and collect I lie ,
particulars of hut five eases out of seven, to whom the Truss
Tins
lieBn applied. Mr. M., who was ruptured on hoth sides,
believes himsalf permanently cured on one. He has left off'
the 7'rnss for more than twenty-four hours, and not with-1
standing considerable efforts were designedly made, no pro
trusion took place."
‘•.Mr. Marlin,now in hisninety-fifih year,and well known
** the oldest inhabitant of Augusta, has been afflicted with !
hernia for more than forty years; arid alter having tried every (
Truss that he had ever It-aid of, expresses his entire saiisfie- ■
lion of the relief afforded, and thinks h° yet may be cured
by wearing the one applied hy Mr lb-id." ;
“Mr. S. after wearing th:> n«\v Truss nliont six weeks,
wiles—‘I am now satisfied of the benefit it will afford the
afflicted. It has given me relief and lam now quite easy
while wearing it: and would recommend it to any person af
flicted with hernia.’ ’
‘•Thenegro man Isaac, belonging to Mrs. Rowell, has al
ready been presented to the society, and all have had an op
portunity of examining him personally and ofjndgingofthe j
operations of the Truss in h;s ease.’’
“The fifth case, which we have investigated, is that of the :
Invqfitor and Patentee i urn seif, who has been afflicted with j
inguinal hernia ou hotlf sides, on one for m n't' than thirty- ,
Jive jTars. and art the ether fir several; and after exjieriene- j
iug ths detects of the Tmeses, wdticli had been recommend- j
ed to him, is now relieved !>v:li one which he lias invented, j
or improved.”
“( Jf the five paii*'ti!« that we have examined, one believes i
himself entirely cured on one side, and all are satisfied ol
the Tress’ maintaining its proper situation independently
of anv other apparatus, and of the entire re’iff it affords.
“7’lte greatest improventenr, however, which occurs to
the Committee, is, that this Truss operates in inaintaiiiitig its
position without iheai.l of belt, strap, buckle or any'other
appendage whatever, the chafing and disagreeable effects of
which cause patients so generally to complain.”
“We believe .Mr. Ilffi etttilled to full credit ibr ail it"
claims in his Patent—that the Independent Spring 7’russ is
an improvement; that it. operates and retains its situation,
when applied, independently of any other apparatus; that n
does prevnt lie* protrusion of the abdominal contents; that
it thus affords relief, and that if any other 7’ru.ss will pro
duce a permanent cure, this one will."

“I ha veexnmiued a 7'rnss invented hy 31 r. Reid, and wit
nessed its appliealloo in several eases of scrotal hernia: and
have no hesitation in pronouncing it an admirable instru
ment Ibr the treatment ofthe.se distressing afflictions. In
fact, in many p sptvts it is superior to any 7'russ i have ever
seen or employed.

Tak; n in projicr doses, tlm INDIAN’S PANACE A
operates ns an alterative and detergent; a diaphoretic, diu
retic and laxative; an antUpasmodic and anodyne; and, in
proper eases, as a stomachic and cttmieimgogite. Generally
expressed, it increases all the secretions and excretions, gives
forte to the stomach, and ex; ites action in the glands in a
particular manner. From these principles, its operations
may be understood.
ll is little more limn three years since this preparation was
presented to ihe public; hut, in that short space of time,
some hundreds of persons might be found, who would so-
letuitly declare that they believed that their lives were sav
ed by it, nnd i.t most eases after they had tried many and
perhaps all the common remedies in vain. AVhercver it is
known, it is rapidly coming into use, and this affords the
most substantial and coiivineing proof of its merits.
The value of the PANACEA is most conspicuous in
those long-standing and syphilitic and scrofulous affections
which have defied all other remedies, and particularly in
those cases whore mercury has been so lavishly used as to
cause distressing pains in the bones, nodes, mercurial ulcers,
derangement of tl»a digestive organs, <fcc. These it cum
