.contact with the AG IE and FEY EH in its most obsli-
itmia forms, and liave frequently been compelled to witness
£hc entire want of success in the practice ot the most skillful
'Fhyeii ians. Tim usual and popular inode of treating this
disHase has been, first to evacuate the stomach and bowels,
and then rt* art to the u«*c of Tonics—of wliii h class of Me

public—nil of which have h.*d their advocates, and that
which Itns been l>y far lira most popular one, lias been Peru
vian Bank and its preparations, parfora.^rly that of Quinine.
There are inuiirtuountH hie objections to the d'hiiinistr/nion of
Quinine, as to most individuals, (when carried til & salutary
point,) it produces a roaring in the ears, nausea and il l»end-
arh, very similar to a bilious henffarh; and w hen it eiTcets

this state of things that induced us to try the “Southern
Tonic,” and vvd arc happy to *>ay tliat its success has sur
prised even us. As .'here is no Arsenic, Mercury, or any
thing in the least hurtful ti) the human constitution in it,
there can he no objection to the administration of the South

the mostdelicatu and elleetive Medicine known in those ca

debility which so frequently present themselves in children,

plain, simple and unvarnished tacts, which need no com

Maxwell's Filly, by Eclipse, a single two miles, which he

Lancaster, he won a match a single mile, lie losi once out
of live races, nnd then was b. atcn by the celebrated mile
horse Fox, by Eclipse. All were astonished to see Fox
run so closely by a lures year o.'IT, with a ean h upon each,

a Sir Charles; one at Salisbury, beating a Dion, at 4 heals:
one at New Market, beating four others, at two heat*, one

heating an Archie, at three heals, first heat w.»n hy Stan

United Slates, and particularly in Virginia, as will Ih: seen
hy the following extract of a letter from Mr. Thomas Goode
Tucker, a gen:Uman of high standing and character, of

‘‘Some of his get at this lime, though in young ami inexpe

not be pulled down in Virginia, w here the value of his stock

dious attack of interested jockeys, “ ‘lis AKABt”
PEDIGREE.
ARAB is a beautiful dark hay, over sixteen hands high,
honest measure,-of fin n carriage nnd action, and command
ing presence; was sired by tlie well Known and celebrated
stallion Oid Sir Arehy, of whom nothing need he said; bis
dam old Bet Bounce by the imported hr>rse c>;r Henry, his
grandnm hy Ifart’s imiiorted Medley, great-grandam by old
Mark Anthony, g.g. grnndam hy imported Jolly Roger, out
of the imported mure Jenny Cameron.
(Signed) JAMES J. HARRISON.
The same gentleman, after staling in the most glowing
terms liis opinion of B t Bounce aud her stock, (for lie
•rained them all,) speaks of Arab and Berxhcha as the very
bestrews of the day, and gives Arab’s performances as
follows:
41 ADhr«c years old, he h-at Defiance, a full brother to
Washington, re* Tiinoleou) two mile heats, nt tlirce heats.
This race was won Dj* Flirtiiia, owing to circumstances.
Twenty days afterwards, lie b f at liirtilia, at Halifax, N.
C. two mile heats for ihe great slake—three days after
wards, lie was entered against the celebrah'd Sir Henry,
and the heroine Junene, 3 mile Inals.. Hern Ar ab s supe
riority was dearly evini-eil, for lie feat them lioth ut three
heats, throwing away the first and winning the serund and
third heats. After that, lie met Defiance, and settled nfonr
mile contest at one heat. Anil in like manner fulfilled an
engagement with a full sister to Carolinian, at one lier.t of
lour miles. He then run a trial of two miles out with the
celebrated Henry, beating him from 60 to 70 yards, and
making the run, with training shoes on, snya one of the
timers, in three minutes and torty-eigh: seconds; perhaps tlie
greatest gallop ol two miles since the days of Childrpss.
After that, he was entered in a (our mile contest with that
truly formidable rare mare Janette, that won 14 out of 16
races, and died young. She wss nearly allied to AKAI>
coming oat cf his full sister, arid begotten by his father. Af
ter running three mil. s or more, Arab was going ahead a«
haul as the boy could pull hint from 60 to 80 yards, and sud
denly, fir the first time in his life, he stopped till she had
passed him IoO yards. lie then started again, and in the
three-quarters oi a mile overhauled her and stopped again,
and thus lost the heat, and finally the rare, as he positively
refused starting the second heat, and never would run kindly
afterwards.”
His owner thinks, in making out liis rcrtificate, that, hy
some oversight, Cupt. Harrison omitted to mention one of
Arab’s best races; that .Mr. James Summerville, of War-
renton, a gentleman of undoubted veracity and charnrt r
assured him, that in some tour mile contest with John Ri
chards, Arab had certainly distanced him. JCnough, how
ever, has been said to sh.ov his great superiority as a racer,
in fact, liis racing powers have never been questioned, nor
indeed can they he. As regards blood, he cannot he sur
passed: nothing could be more pure at its fountain, and not
one drop of imparity in any of the tributary streams. As
regards his size and beauty, we candidly and honestly he
lieve his equal cannot be loumi in any living horsp. We,
therefore, invito the public to come and see, and judge for
themselves; for an attempt ala correct description of this
unequalled horse would lie less than useless. He combines
all the strength and boldness of tl)e lion with the beauty
nnd activity of the roebuck”, and ia unquestionably, the best
