CITATIONS.
GEORGIA. Butte county.
Court of Ordinary April Term 1S53.
on .he First Tuesday in JULY r.eil, between the | I T appealing to theCourt by the petition of John
usual hours of sale the following property to-wit: 1 S Anderson, that K.chard Nolen while ... hfe. did
bama planter talking about raising
twice as much pork as will be necessa
ry or his own wants. We wish he had
put his name to this pledge, and then it
would not have needed our indorse
ment, for every body " ho knew the man,
would have known, that it would not
turn out to be all talk and no pork.
But we are afraid to let it pass, lest
someone may conclude that if is a
flourish of some : ‘Book Farmer,” who
does not know how to make corn.
That all such apprehensions may be
quieted, we slate, some ot us herea
bouts have a feeling recollection, that
some very handsome silver cups, offer
ed at our last Fair as premiums for the
best acres of corn, were seen last in the
possession of our correspondent. Our
understanding is, that the old gentle
man plants “the crib keep seed,” and
that, on well drained land. So these
good things for the pigs, are to be an
addition to tho general supplies, and
are intended only lo stop some of the
leakages of the erib. Tne potato patch
in each held, to be eaten by the hogs in
connection with the peas, is an excel
lent arrangement, and the benefit of a
well selected and well managed peach
orchard, in a soil and climate so well
suited, as most of that in Chambers
county, Ala., will exceed all expecta
tion. The addition of a few acres in
plums, will be a great improvement to
the plan.—Soit oj The South.
New Description of Cotton.—The N.
Y. Economist notices a remarkable spe
cimen ofcotton, destined for tfie World’s
Fair. This cotton has already been
briefly mentioned in the Picayune.
The Economist says:
It was procured by one of the most
enterprising and intelligent merchants
of Texas, from the Pino Indians. It is
of a texture and strength of fibre supe
rior to any ever before offered in this
market. To the touch it has the feel
ing of silk, being destitute of the harsh
feeling incident lo cotton. It is of a
long staple, and of beautiful clear white
color. We understand that the enler-
prising discoverer has procured a quan
tity of the seen, and will enter exten
sively into the culiure. It has been
found under circumstances which lead
to I he hope that the degeneration of the
quality, usual upon these fine qualities,
will not be encountered in this case.
Cure for Rose hugs.—A subscriber
wishes to know if any one can suggest
a method of preventing the yearly in
cursions of the rose bug, and having
heard considerable complaint among
our neighbors of having their cucum
bers, grapes, and other fruit destroyed
by these insects, I will suggest a rem
edy. Plant in the centre ofyour garden
a few damask rose-bushes, and they
will never light on anything else. We
have a large garden with almost every
kind of fruit, vines, shrubbery, and
flowers, with several kinds of roses,
and in the centre we have four bunch
es of darnask rose-bushes, and I never
saw in the whole garden a rose hug on
anything" bul the damask rose. When
they are in blossom I go into the garden
once a day with a pan of hot water,
and shake the bugs from these roses in
to the water, and get about a pint at one
time; this I practice for a few days, and
then they will disappear.—Boston cul
tivator.

Trees.—Ma-
our readers
have done something this season, to
wards increasing the value of their pre
mises by setting out young fruit trees.
Where these have been set out in grass
fields they must be hoed to secure suc
cess. No one would expect a hill of
corn planted in the middle of a mowing
field to thrive without further attention.
Nor is there any more propriety in leav
ing a small apple to fight its way with
the grass. The case is different with
large trees whose roots have struck
deep and wide and got the better of the
ground. English orchardists have a
way of managing fruit trees which they
call mulching, and which consists in
keeping a coating of litter around the
tree, which serves the double purpose
of keeping out the grass, and preserv
ing an agreable temperature in the soil,
a point very necessary in our variable
climate in the successful management
of our fruit trees.—Chronicle.
To Make Coffee.—The Scientific
American says the best way of making
coffee, is to pul the groung coffee into
a wide mouthed bottle over night, and
pour rather more than half a pint of
water upon each ounce and a half, to
cork the bottle; in the morning to loosen
the cork, put the bottle into a pan of
water, and brine the water to a boiling , , _ „ ,. . . ,, „ ien o, l0
