Thomas W. Bolton established the Independent Blade with co-owner and Editor F. D. Bowen in the mid-1850s in Newnan. The partners later brought on Henry A. Livingston as editor and publisher of their paper. The Blade was Coweta County’s fifth newspaper. Facing financial struggle, the paper ceased publication in the early 1860s.
