The proprietors and manufacturers of HOS TETTER’S CELEBRATED STOMACH BIT TERS can appeal with perfect confidence to physicians and citizens generally of the United States, because the article has attained a repu tation heretofore unknown. A few facts upon this point will speak more powerfully than volumes of bare assertion or blazoning jiuflery. The consumption of Hostetter's Stomach Bit ters for the hist year amounted to over a half million bottles, and from its manifest steady increase in limes past, it is evident that during the coming year the consumption will reach near one million bottles. This imntense amount could never have been sold but for the rare medieinnl properties contained in the prepara tion, and the sanction of the most prominent physicians in those sections of the country where the article.is best known, who not only recommend the Bitters to t'lieir patients, but arc ready al all times to give testimonials to its efficacy in all cases of stomachic derangements and the diseases resulting therefrom. This is not a temporary popularity, obtained by extraordinary efforts in the way of trum peting the qualities of the Bitters, but. a solid estimation of an i»vahiable medicine, which is destined to bo as endtiring as time itself. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters have proved a Godsend to regions where fever ami ague and vnridttsr other bilious complaints have counted their victims by hundreds. To be able to state confidently that the “Ritters” are a certain cure for the Dyspcjis.ia aud like diseases, is to the propfi'et'drs a source of un alloyed pleasure. It removes all morbid matter from the stomach, purifies the blood, and imparts renewcd'vitaliiy to the nervous system, giving it that tone mid energy indispensable for the restoration of health. Il operates upon the stomach, liver, mid other digestive organs, mildly but powerfully, mid soon restores them to acondiiion essential to the health;; discharge of the functions of nature. Elderly persons may use the Bitters daily ns per directions on the bottle, and they will find in it a stimulant peculiarly adapted to comfort, declining years, ns it is pleasant to the palate, invigoralitvi*- t«-the bowels, excellent ns a tonic, mid rejuvenating generally. We have the evi dence of thousands of aged men and women who have experienced the benefit of using this preparation while suffering from stotnacli de rangements and general debility; acting under the advice of physicians, they have abandoned all deletcriortk drugs mid fairly tested the merits of this arti'clte. A few Words to the gentler sex. There are eertaifi periods when their cares are so harassing that many of them sink under the trial. The relation of mother mid child is so absorbingly tender, that the mother,-especially if she be young, is apt to forget her own health in her extrertiC anxiety for her infant. Should the period of maternity arrive during the summer season, the wear of body and mind is generally aggravated. Here, then, is a necessity for a srimtllaut to recupe rate the energies of the system, mid enable the muthcr to bear up under her exhaust ing trials and responsibilities. Nursing mothers gene rally prefer the Billers to all wilier invigora tors that receive the endorsement of physi cians, because it i-s agi'eeablc to the taste as well as certain to give a permanent increase of bodily strength. All those poisons, to whom we have particu larly referred above, to wit: sufferers fr.mt fever and ague, caused by malaria, diarrhoea, dysentery, indigestion, loss of appetite, and all diseases or derangements of the stomach,- superannuated m*aki<ls. persons of sedentary occupation, and nursirig ntOCliers, will consult their own physical welfare by giving Io Hos tetter’s Celebrated Stomach Bitters a trial. CAUTION.—We caution the public against using any of the many imitations or counter feits, but ask for Hostetter’s Ci:i.ei;i: >ted Stomacii Bittkbs, ami see that eactrDoTflc has the words "Dr. .T. Hostetter's Stomach Bitters” blown on the side of the bottle,-and stamped on the metallic cap covering the cork, mid observe that our autograph signature is on the label. POWELL, Attorney at Law, Newnan, Georgia, WILL Practice in the Counties of Merriwether, CovYeta, Fayette, Fulton, Campbell, Ct-r --roll, Heard, Troup, and also in the United State- District Court at Marietta, Ga. Jan. 15, 1858.—23-ts. jsrofula, or King’s Evil, L a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which this fittid becomes vitiated, weak, and poor. Being in the circulation, it pervades the wl ole body, and may burst out in disease on any part ot it. No organ is tree from its attacks, nor i t there one which it may not destroy. The scrofulous taint is vurioii ly can-cd by mercurial disease, low’ living, dis ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. What ever be its origin, it is hereditary in the con stitution, descending “ from parents to children unto the third and fourth generation;” indeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, “I will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon their ehildtvn.” Its effects commence by depo ition from the blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lung , liver, and internal organs, i ! s termed tuberele.s; in the glands, swellings; and on the .surface, eruptions or sores. This foul cor ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitu tions not only suffer from scrofulous com plaints, but they have far less power to with stand the attacks of other diseases; conse quently vast numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, are still rendered fatal by this taint in the .system. Most of the consumptidir which de cimates the human family has its origin directly in this scrofulous contamination; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or are aggravated by the same cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous ; their persons are invaded by this lurking in fection, and; their health is undermined by it. To cleanse it front the system wc must renovate the blood by an alterative medicine, and in vigorate it by healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine wc supply i'u AYER'S y ' Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla, the most effectual remedy which the medical skill of our times can devise for this every where prevailing and fatal malady. It is com bined from the most active retnedials that have been discovered for the expurgation of this foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences, llcnce it should be employed for the cure of not only Scrofula, but also those other affec tions which arise from it, such as Eruptive and Skin Diseases, St. Anthony’s Fire, Rose, or Erysipelas,- Pimpi.es, Pustules, Blotches, Bi.ains and Bon.s, Tumors, Tetter and Salt Rheum,- Scald Head, Ringworm, Rheumatism, Syphilitic and Mercurial Dis eases, Dropsy, Dyspepsia, Debility, and, indeed, all Complaints arising from Vitia ted or Impure Blood. The popular belief in impurity of the blood" is founded in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood. The particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa rilla is to’purify and regenerate thi.-, vital fluid, without xvhich soUnd. health is impossible in contaminated constitutions. Ayer’s Cathartic Pills, FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIC, are so composed that disease within the range of their action can rarely withstand or evade them, their penetrating properties search, and cleanse, and invigorate every portion of the human organ ism, correcting its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of these properties, the invalid who is bowed down with pain or physical debility is astonished to find his health or energy restored by a remedy at once so simple and inviting. Not only do they cure the cvcry-day complaints of every body, but also many formidable and dangerous diseases. The agent below named is pleased to furnish gratis my American Almanac, containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use in the following coinplnints ■ nrss, rrvnrttmriCTTeddacTte ari.sinyfrom disordered Stomach, JStusea, Indigestion, Pain in and Morbid Inaction of the liotccls, Flatulency, Loss of Appe tite, Jaundice, and other kindred complaints, arising from a "low state of the body or obstruction of its functions. Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral, FOR THE RAPID cure of Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness, Croup Bronchitis, Incipient Consump tion, and for the relief of Consumptive Patients in advanced stages of the disease. So wide is the field of its usefulness ami so nu merous tire the ca-es of its cures, that almost every section of country abounds in persons pub licly known, who have been restored from alarming and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its use. When once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of it- kind is too apparent to escape observation, ami where its virtues are. known, the public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ for the distressing and dangerow-s affections of the pulmonary organs that tire incident to our climate. While many inferior remedies thrust upon the community have failed and been discarded, this has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits on the alllieted they can never forget, and pro duced cures too numerous and too remarkable to be foigtßten. rREI’ARED BY DR. It is a concentrated extract of Para Sarsaparilla, so combined with other substances of still greater alterative power as to afford an effective antidote for the diseases Sarsaparilla is reputed to cure. It is believed that such a remedy is Avanted by those who suffer from Strumous complaints, and that one which will accomplish their cure must prove of immense service to this large class of our afflicted fellow-citizens. How completely this compound will do it has been proven by exper iment on many of the worst cases to be found of the following complaints: Scrofula and Scrofulous Complaints, Eruptions and Eruptive Diseases, Ulcers, Pimples, Blotches, Tumors, Salt Rheum, Scald Head,’ Syphilis and Syphilitic Af fections, Mercurial Disease, Dropsy, Neu ralgia or Tic Douloureux, Debility, Dys pepsia and Indigestion, Erysipelas, Rose or St. Anthony’s Fire, and indeed the whole class of complaints ari ing from Impurity of the Blood. This compound will be found a great pro moter of health, wheu taken in the spring, to expel the foul humors which fester in the blood at that season of the year. By the time ly expulsion of them many rankling disorders are nipped in the bud. Multitudes can, by the aid of this remedy, spare themselves from the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous sores, through which the system xvill strive to rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to do this through the natural channels of the body by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities bursting through the skin in pimples, eruptions, or sores; cleanse it when you find it is ob structed and sluggish in the veins ; cleanse it whenever it is foul, and your feelings will tell you when. Even where no particular disorder is felt, people enjoy better health, and live longer, for cleansing the blood. Keep the blood healthy, and all is well; but with this pabulum of life disordered, there can be no lasting health. .Sooner or later something must go wrong, and the great machinery of life is disordered or overthrown. Sarsaparilla has, and deserves much, the reputation of accomplishing these ends. But the world has been egregiously deceived by preparations of it, partly because the drug alone has not all the virtue that is claimed for it, but more because many preparations, pretending to be coneentrated extracts of it, contain but little of the virtue of Sarsaparilla, or any thing else. During late years the public have been mis led by large bottles, pretending to give a quart of Extract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most of these have been frauds upon the sick, for they not only contain little, if any, Sarsapa rilla, but often no curative properties whatev er. lienee, bitter and painful disappointment has followed the use of the various extracts of Sarsaparilla which flood the market, until the name itself is justly despised, and has become synonymous with imposition and cheat. Still we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend to supply such a remedy as shall rescue the name from the load of obloquy which rests upon it. And we think we have ground for believing it has virtues which tire irresistible by the ordinary run of the diseases it is intend ed to cure. In order to secure their complete eradication from the system, the remedy should be judiciously taken according to directions on the bottle. PREPARED by DK. J. C. AYER & CO. LOWELL, MASS.
