“A GREAT MEDICINE.”
“ We havo uniformly refrained from recommend'

cines of the day, unless thoroughly convinced ol
their vnlue. Among those we consider worthy nt
nolico is tho German Bitters, invented by Dr.
IIuopland, and prepared by Dr. Jackson in Phila
delphia. Ono instance in particular, in which the
superior virtues ol this medicine have been tested,
has fallen under our observation. During the last
summer, a son of Mr. Abraham (’rabiil rf of this coun
ty, was very seriously nflhcted with Liver Complaint
nnd after trying in vain various remedies, ho pur<
chased a bottle of the Ritters, and after using it,
was so much relieved of his distressing malady, that
he procured another bottle, and it restored him en

*' Hr. Uoofi.and's German Bitters.—Here i
preparation which tho leading presses in the Union
appear to be unanimous in recommending, and the
reason is obvious. It is made alter a prescription
furnished by one of the moat celebrated physicians
ol modern tirnon, tho late Dr. Christopher Wilhelm
M no flan d, Professor to the University of Jena, Pri
vate Physician to tho King of Prussia, and one of
the greatest medical writers Germany has ever pro
duced. He was emphatically tho enemy of iium
duo,and therefore a medicine of which lie was the
inventor and endoraor may be .confidently relied gn.
He specially recommended it in Liver Complaint,
Dyspepsia, Debility .Virtieo, Acidity of the Stom
ach, Constipation, and nil complaints timing from
a disordered condition of the stomach, the liver and
the intestines. Nine Philadelphia papers express
their conviction of its excellence, and several ot’the
editors now r ponk of its effects from thoir individual
experience. Under these circumstances, we feel
waranted, not only in calling the nttoution of our
readers to the present proprietor’s (Dr. C. M. Jack-
son’s) preparation, but in recommending the article
to all afflicted."
MORE EVIDENCE.
The “Philadelphia Saturday Gazette," the best
fumily newspaper published in tho United Stales,
the editor says of
DR. HOOFLAND’S GERMAN BITTERS.
” It is soldom that wo recommend what nre term-

age of our readers; nnd, therefore, when wc recom
mend Dr. Iloofland’s German Bitters, we wish it to
bo distinctly understood that we are not speaking
of the nostrums of the day, that are noised about
for a brief poriod and thou forgotten after they have
done their guilty race ol mischief, but of a modi*
cine long established^ universally prized, and which
hae mot the hearty approval of the Fuculty itself.
Evidence upon evidence has been received (liko
the foregoing) from all sections of tho Union, in
three yoars r and the strongest testimony in its favor
is, thotthoro is more of it used in the prnctiee of the
regular Physicians of Philadelphia than ull other
nostrums combined, a fact that .can easily be esta
blished, and fully proving that a scientific prepara
tion will meet with their quiet approval when pre
sented even in this form.
This medicine will cure Liver Complaint and Dis-
pepsia no one can doubt, after using it as directed.
It acts specifically upon the Biamoch and Itver-—it is
preferable to calomel in all billtous diseases—the
effect is immediate. They can bs administered to
female or infant with safety and reliable benefit, at
any time.

Married Woman’s Private Medical Companion,”
for which I enclosed one dollar to ymr add.-ess,
came safely to hand. I would tint have troubled
you with these few lines, but that 1 tun impelled
by a sense ofgrutitude, for myself und wife, to give
utterance to our sincere ami heartfelt emotions.
'* My wife has been perceptibly sinking for some
three years or more, in consequence of her great
anguish and suffering some months before and dur
ing confinement; every successive one more und
more debilitated and prostrated her, putting her life
in imminent danger, and which was on tho last
occasion, despaired of. 1 supposed tlmt this state
ol things was inevitable, ami resigned myself to
meet the worst. At this time (now about two
months) I heard your book highly spoken of ns con
taining some mutters reaching my ease. On its re
ceipt und porusnl, I cannot express to yon the .•rliei
it afforded my distressed muni und the joy its pa
ges imparted to my wife, on learning thut tlicgreat
discovery ofM.M, Desomeaux provided a remedy.
It openetl a prospect to me which J little conceived
was possible. * No pecuniary consideration can
ever repay the obligations 1 tun under to you for
having been the means of imparting to us the mat
ters contained in ” The Married Woman's Private

year would have passed ovqr my head, in all hu
man probability uty wife would have been in her
grave, ami my children left motherless.

this constant effort w.\s beginning to have its effect
upon my health; 1 felt less capable to o dure its
continuance, while I felt the necessity ol persever
