Their power over the above diseases is not excel
led, if squalled, by any other preparation in the
United States i as the cares attest, in many cases
after skillful physicians had failed,
Thcso Bitters are worthy the attention of inva
lids. Possessing great virtues in the rectification
of diseases of tho Liver and lesser glands, exercis
ing the most searching powers in weakness and sf
factions of the digestive organs, they are, withal,
safe, certain and pleasant.

••A GREAT MEDICINE.”
•• We have uniformly refrained from recommend
ing to the public ar.y of the various Patent Medi
cines of the day, unless thoroughly convinced of
their value. Among those we consider worthy nt
notice is the German Bitters, invented by Dr.
Hoofland, and prepared by Dr. Jackson in Phila
delphia One instanoo in particular, in which the
superior virtues ol this medicine have been tested,
has fallen under our observation. During the Iasi
summer, a son of Mr. Abraham (Tsbill, of this coun
ty, was very seriously afflicted with Liver Complaint
and aftor trying in vnin various remedies, lie pur
chased a bottle of the Bitters, and after using it,
was so much relieved of his distressing malady, that
he procured another bottle, and it restored him en
tirely to health.”

•’ Dr. Hoofland’s German Bitters.-—Here Is a
preparation which tho leading presses in tiie Union
appear to be unanimous in recommending, and the
reason ia obvious. It is made alter a prescription
furnished by one of the most colebra’ed physicians
ol modern times, tho late Dr. Christopher Wilhelm
Hoofland, Professor to the University of Jena, Pri
vate Physician to tho King of Prussia, ami one ol
the greatest medical writers Germany has overpro
duced. He was emphatically tho enemy ol hum-
duo,nnd therefore a medicine of which he was the
inventor and endorser may-be confidently relind on.
He specially recommended it in Liver Complaint,
Dyspepsia, Debility. Virtigo, Acidity of the Stom
ach, Constipation, and all complaints arising from
a disordered condition of the stomach, the liver and
the intestines. Nine Philadelphia papers express
their conviction of its excellence, ond several of the
odi:ors now speak of its effects from their individual
experience. Under these circumstances, we feel
waranted. not only in calling the attention nf our
renders to the present proprietor's (Dr. C. M. Jack-

of the nostrums of tho day, that are noised about
for n brief period nnd thon forgotten after they have
done their guilty race ol mischief, but of a medi*
cine long established, universally prized, and which
hat* met the hearty approval offlb Faculty itself
Evidence upon evidence has been received (like
the foregoing) from all sections of tho Union, in
three years’' and the strongest testimony in its lavnr
is, that there is more ol it used in the practice of the
regular Physicians of Philadelphia than all other
nostrums combined, n fact that can easily be esta*

Having been severely nfilictcd for several years

which I was troubled, would occupy more space

frequently alter eating, 1 would bo taken with vio

spine. At such times I whs compelled to take my

the best medical aid the country afforded. Having

you with those few lines, but that I am impelled
by a sense of gratitude, lor myself and wife, to give
utterance to our sincere and heartfelt emotions.
. “ My wile 1ms been perceptibly sinking for sonic
three years or more, in consequence of her groat'
anguish and suffering some months before nnd dur
ing confinement; every successive ono more and
more debilitated and prostrated her, puffins her life
in imminent dnnger, nnd which was on the last
occasion, despaired of. I supposed that this state
ol tilings wns inevitable, and resigned myself to
meet the worst. At this time (now obont two
months) I heard your bool? highly sjioken of as con
taining some matters reaching iny case. On its re
ceipt mid perusal, I cannot express to yon the .-eliel
it afforded my distressed mind and the joy its pa
ges imparted to my wife, on learning thut’thegreat

It opened a prospect to mo which I little conceived

My Dear Sir:—I know you will havethu kind
ness to benr with me in encroaching upon your

in having made known certain matters, contained
in your most invaluable ‘Married Women’s Pri

weight In gold to me. If I express myself rather
warmly, yon will see tlmt I can not do so too warm
ly, when 1 inform you of the extent to which I have,
.through it, been benefitted. I will state my situa
tion when 1 obtained your book through the mer
est curiosity. 1 look upon It ns one of the most
fortunate oveuts of my life J had been married
some ten years, and was the futhor of seven child
ren: I was long struggling unceasingly, to the end
that I might earn n medera'.e competency, but the
results of my utmost exertions nt the end left me
about where I was at the beginning of each yoar;
and tlmt only, with the most stinted economy, suf
ficient with barely the necessaries of life. Finally,
this constant effort W.\s beginning to bnve its effect
upon my health; I felt loss cnpnble to o dure its
continuance, while I felt the necessity ol persever
ance.
“ This constant unceasing struggle on my pnit
was imperative in consequence of tho prostrated
condition of my wife (with occasional intermission)
for six years, much of the time confined to her bed
uml of course incapable of taking the charge and
management of household affairs. Her cordition
arose from causes of which 1 Wns ignorant. Oh-
what would 1 hnve given Imd 1 the six years to live
over again ! What would my wife have given to
have been spared the long days and still longer
nights prostrate on a bed of sickness '.—all of which
