tion, it adjourned to the next quarterly meeting.
Col. William II. Wood wus then called out and
proceeded to give some hnppy practical remarks on
the subject of glowing wheat, in which he dwelt on
•tauco of deep plowing and manuring. In
Wood’s remarks ho drew upon the store-house
of his own experience, which cxamplo it is to be hop-
.ed will bo followed as eminently calculated to arrive
at truth through practical results.
. Dr. Leigh was called upon. He contended that
"whatever was worth doing was worth doing well. 1
.He thought we made too much cottod, and should
raise a greater abundance of hogs, sheep and stock of
all kinds. The present system was destructive of
Jnnds, and the provision crop wos neglected for the
cotton crop*. He urged deep plowing as indispensa
ble lo large productions. Was opposed to turning
up the sub-toil, and thought the "Great Architect of
the Universe had placed the right side up." He urg-
'ed.a proper division of labor, and bid us prepare for
the "beginning of the end.” 1-Ie exhorted his fellow-
farmers not to "stand at the tail of a clnss nnd suck
the hind Tit of creation.” The Dr’s speech was a
ppily woven wreath of good sense ond goed humor,
,nd if he had made known to his audience the "mo-
operand!” of cooking potatoes, his effort would
have been complete. ,
Mr. Absolem H. Stephens wos called up, and gave
a speech on the mechanic arts as would be

There not being a quorum present, however,

and we cordially wish him the same success
in othor quarters. Whea a party have to
