SOUTHERN CULTIVATOR.
To the Patrons and Friends of the Southern
Cultivator.
I T becomes my melancholy duty to an
nounce i j you tlmt the extensive Printing
Estublishment of tho Chronicle cf« Sentinel,
in which was ol?o published the Southern
Cultivator, was entirely consumed hy fire,
with nearly its whole contents, on Tuesday
night, the 18th Inst.
The lire originated in the large three story
brick building used ns'n Cabinet factory by
C. A. Platt, by tho accidental falling of a
lamp into some cotton, which snon commu
nicated with my Printing Establishment, a
handsome four story brick building, 25 by
00 feet, just finished, indeed from which the
lust shavings of the builder had only thnt
morning been swop tout. So rapid was the
progress of the (lames, that I only saved a
small Job Press, a small quantity of type,
some paper, nnd sonic sm.* II articles of com
paratively little vulile. My loss has thus
been between (3 and $16,000 on which there
wns no Insurance. My counting room, be
ing in a different building, my books und
accounts wers ull saved.
This disastrous casunlty will prevent the
issue of the December number of tho Culti
vator with the accompanying Index, ut ns
early a day as was anticipated. It will, how
ever, be issued ill the course of the month aud
promptly forwarded to all subscribers, as it
is already neatly in typo, wtiich we hojn

tho issue of the January number may be de
layed a fe\v days; in consequence of tljo de
