THE STORM.
Now's the reign of wild disorder,
Hark ! the pelting waters pour !
From the troubled ocean's border
Listen to the dreadful roar.
‘Hear the north wind loudly screaming,
Scouring with resistless force ;
See the rain through no alleys streaming,
In a wild, irriguous coarse.
This is Hack confusion's hour,
. Now he rules the briny main ;
And, extending wide his power,
Scaite s ruin o’er the plain.
See uprooted is the willow,
Pines and cedars scatter'd lie ;
Hark how cv'ry white-capt Hilo to,
Foaming swells toward the sky.
How the peasant, quitting labor.
When he gains his little cot,
Sighing wonders, f his neighbor
*. Safely shelter'd is, or not.
Faster still the water's pouring }
Gloom terrific shades ike sly,
. Save before tier thunder's warn g
When the vivid lightnings fy.
Now upon-the foaming ocean
Listen to desponding cries ■,
Ships, with quick alternate motion,
Downward plunge, again to rise.
Long heals;:, now the brine they drink,
Now meet more dangerous waves ;
And in a moment down they sink,
Andfind them watery graves,
How many a soul that instant fed,
Torn by some ruthless billow ;
How many a lifeless mortals's head
Lies on a coral pillow.
Ah ! hence the seaman Teas that pow'r,
JVith supplicating eyes,
Which rules the beav’ns, where'er ipey low'r,
Portend! cr storms are nigh.

THE Goal Committee report,
that they have examined the books and ac
counts of Captain M'Cail, goaler, up to June
24th, 1807, and find them correct—he holds the
treasurer’s receipt for 643 dollars 23 1-2 cents,
being the balance then due the city. The com
mittee deem it but just to notice at this time the
very excellent Mate of the goal, as it refpefis
ebanikefa and comfort towards the prisoners
confined, which reflets much credit on the
management cf the prelrnt goaler.
