lican principles are adopted in his ticket j and

Is it not done to endeavor to give currency to
the ticket ? And does he not well know that

tainly calculated upon ? I trust the cloven foot
is too discernible to dupe.

j pounds of beef, a quartern loaf, and a p’ppor
tionably cjuanty of drink. On one occaffon the j
Surgeons ordered lierto lie kept without eating |
one hour, and the consequence was, (lie railed the j
tnoil, (hocking era's nnt,l her craving was fatis- 1
ffed. She retains her senses, and conflantly re
qneffs those about her to bear with her unnatural
behavior, until (he is cured by medical afiiftancc,
i-r death puts an end to her fafL-rings. Previous
to this lingular propenffty, the unfortunate vvo
rr.au was known to be a very moderate eater.

INDIAN DEPREDATIONS.
A letter from a gentleman of r, fpedtability in
Lewiitoivn on Niagara river, to his brother in
this town, dated the I9th ult. contains the iol
’owing- intelligence ;
That captain Connelly, of the schooner Wil
kinson, arrived there from Detroit who informs
the utmost alarm in consequence of the ho (tile
eor.duA cf the Indians. About .590 of whom
cad eucatapeddn Detroit river, oppolite the town j
dressed and paiuted in a mapn’er that indicated |
war—that a few of them had attacked, a white j
‘.air:; y, and wounded the man ; on the alarm be- •
mg given, they were difperied—that the inhabi- !
tau'.s of Detroit were engaged in fortifying the
town, and had already enclosed it with piecuets
and erected a block home in the centre. In ad
i dition to this, the letter flares that an express ar- 1
rived at C.lipawaon t.he idtis, with information j
lhat the Indians iiad killed several families ; and *
in confeoiseoee of this news a person of infuence!
with the Indians whs dispatched from Chipawa
to Detroit. The inhabitants of Canada vvt-re as
greatly alarmed as those of the l fin ted States. 1

| Suicide. —-On Saturday evening, a negro boy,
I lately frouv the Weil Indies, in a fit oi defpera
‘ tion leaped from a three (lory houle in Pine
flreet, and bruised hitiifelf in such a manner that
he expired in a lhort time. He was seen fitting
on the eve of the roof for feme time, and a num
ber of persons went on the house to endeavor to
[ entice him in : but pcrfuufion was of no use 5 he
remained ilationary, and intimated by fig ns. that
if they attempted force, lie would throw himfelf j
off. Not believing that he would make the rash
attempt, a ladder was procured and placed a
gainfl the honfe ; and a person was afeeuding
which being perceived by the unhappy wretch,
