There are few so ignorant as not to know that
a work like this, if even tolerably executed,
must possess intrinsic value. The compilation
of this book is allowed by competent judges, to
be performed in a very masterly manner» and
the well known character of the gentleman
whose name it bears, forbids the idea of any
deficiency of industry or talent in executing
the important service confided to him by the
Legislature.
It is believed tnat every man who can conve
niently buy this work ought to possess it,be
cause it behoves every citizen to have some
knowledge of the laws of his country. The
opinion expressed by Judge Dlackstone is cer
tainly correct that, “ As every one is interest
ed iathe presi rvatioiwof the Laws, it is in
cumbent upon every man to be acquainted with
those at least with which he ia immediately
concerned ; lest he incur the censure, as well
a» inconvenience, of living in Society, without
knowing the obligations which it lays him un
der.”
CONDITIONS.
The book will be neatly printed and substan
tially bound in* one large royal octavo volume,
in size equal to “ layer toll's Digest of the Iaiws
of the United States," and will be furnished to
subscribers at the price that hooks sell for ia
