Carnochan and Peter Mitchell of this ci-
ty have hy sundry deeds recently mortgaged
and assigned to divers persona either their indi
vidual creditors, creditors of the late firm of
Carnochan li Mitchell, or other*, all or sundry
the property und estate, bi\h real and personal,
«f the said firm, as well as their own individual
S roperty and estate, consisting together of
oases, lots, lands, stores, wh.tcvea, negroes, fcc.
in Affinnah and Darien in Georgia, or the
OeirfRoibuod thereof, and elsewhere with their
Interest or share in the stock of the lower
•team mill near Darien, and sundry shares in
the United States Bank and other banks, as well
as sundry debts due to them in various places,
besides lauds, lots, negroes, &c. in the territory
Of Florida, and particularly one large tract of
land bought of Forbea U Co. lying between
the elvers St. Marks and Apalachicola in the
territory of Florida aforesaid.
These are hereby to caution the public against
purchasing any part of the said property or es
tate so conveyed, or any other property belong
ing to the said Carnochan li Mitchell, or either
Of them, as 1 hold prior mortgages on the great-
eat part thereof, which are on record in the re
gistry in Savannah and Darien aforesaid and in
Charleston, S. U. and equitable Icina on all the
ttronerty of said John Carnochan and Peter

The deeds under which Mr Christie claims

as informal, unjust and illegal. Hence they
have been brought and are still before the court,
and other deeds have been executed and re
corded, conveying the property for the use of
all their creditors, Mr Christie included, with
out an* trust or reservation beneficial to C. li
it. or thfcir families i and if this be not agree*
blc to Ifcat gentleman, it must nevertheless ap
pear fair ami equitable to the public and all who
nave a sense of just ce.
The Trustees under the late deeds are anx-
ious to sell the Lands in Florida, alluded to in
the notice of Mr Christie, and to apply the pro
ceeds to the immediate payment of part of Ins
demand, and deposit a sufficiency thereof to co
ver all liis Claim, subject to the decision of the
court—but hisonpoa lion to any reasonable side,
as one interested in his own right, whilst injur
ing all parties concerned, must be borne until a
tale can be made under an order of court,

thority of the General Assembly,

There are few so ignorant as not to know that
a work like this, if even tolerably executed,
must possess intrinsic value. The compilation
of this book is allowed by competent judges, to
be performed in a very masterly manner) and
the well known character of the gentleman
whose name it hears, forbids the idea of any
deficiency of industry or talent in executing
the important aery ice confided to him by the
Legislature.
It is believed tnat every than who can eonve-
niently buy this work ought to possess it, be
cause it behoves every citiaen to hive some
knowledge of the laws of his-country. The
opinion expressed by Judge Ulackstone iscor-
tsiuly correct that, “As evetw one is interest
ed in the preservation of tfio Laws, it is in
cumbent upon eve.v man to be acquainted with
those at least with which he is immediately
concerned 1 lest he incur the censure, as well
as inconveniencr.of living in Society, without
knowiug the obligations which it lays him un
der."
