The Matlriil pnpera contain a variety
of detail* rcspociing the diaturbancea in
the Ninth. It appear* now to be placed
beyond doubt that thi* insurrection it
nearly altogether the work of the Priests,
runny of whom hare been round lighting
in the iuaurgent rank*. We cannot help
thinking it rather a favourable circum
stance tor the Constitutionalists, that the
purtixana of the Inquisition and ecclesi
astical oppreaainn should have so com
pletely unmasked themselves. It is bet
ter to have to do with a known enemy
than a hollow rrientl.
The province of Barcelona is in a com -
plcte state of insurrection.
The Diaro Constitutionel of Corunna,
ISth May, contains a long account of the
4 defeat W the insurgentB. Among the
\ killed, amounting tu 200, were 4 priests
' and 3 monks.
Five to seven hundred Insurgents had
been defeated on the banks of the Mino.
Among the dead were several prieata and
friars.

Frontiers of Moldavia, May 20—Since
the return ot M. de Tatischeif to Petbrs-

Majesty will inspect the Guards. When
the review is finished, his Majesty Will go

that the Servians will not submit to be

•ud more pacific; they explain the delays
with regard to a public determination by
the necessity of wating for the diplomatic
answers of the most distant Cabinets. It
wiil be remarked, that this date of the

June 11.—Letters have been received
from Odessa, dated 15th, containing ex
tracts from Constantinople to the 11th

Moldavia and Wallachia by the Turkish
troop9 ; they also mention that Russian
vessels were clearing out at Odessa load

sured are the merchants of peace, that
they warrant Ine vessels free of capture
or seizure at Constantinople, ami several

1 We have received the Paris papers of
}Saturday last. The only intelligence
■ they contain, possessing the slightest in
terest, are the particulars of a bloodlesB
duel between Benj. Constant and the
Marquis Forbin des Issarts, originating in
a letter inserted by the latter in the Quo-
tidienneand Drappeau Blanc. Benj.Con
stant being lame and unable to stand, the
combatants were provided with two chairs
placed at ten paces from each other, and
7 in that novel posture they both fired twice
without effect, when the seconds interior
oil, and declared the busineas must ter

DISTRESS IN IRELAND.
(Prom the Dublin Patriot of June 8.)
The Irish Poor,—The accounts from
the onuntry continue tu be of the same la*
Deniable kind.
County of Cork.—ll is a source of in
expressible regret to ua, that notwith
standing the appropriation of a great por
tinn of our large sheet to authorised state
ments of great and growing distress in
almost every part of thie extensive coun
try, we are still unable to submit all the
deplorable details which have poured in
upon us, within the last two days to pub
lic inspection. We pledge ourselves to
this fact—that the distress, in extent and
degree, even in those parishes where it
was supposed to be less severe, is fright-
ful and appaling ; and that scenes have
been witnessed by the visitors which so
far exceeded any idea that had been form
ed of what human nature could endure,
that the beholders were obliged to retreat
in dlsmty and horror. We speak not of
a solitary instance of wretchedness, such
as we have described, but masses of it,
where human beings had not tasted food
for six and thirty hours, and where exist
ence was only preserved by some morsel
of food administered by creatures almost
as pallid and woe-worr, but who had just
as many rags as enabled them to crawl
nut without enraging decency. Among
details which are necessarily postponed are
accounts.pf the meeting of lauded pro
prietors and principal inhabitants of the
parish of Kilbolanc, according to the re
turns to which, it appeared that 272 fami
lies, exceeding in number, 1,300 persons
in the parish, are in want of food, or
the means of getting it. Also the ac
count of the adjourned meeting of the in
habitants of a part of the town and neigh
bourhood of Bandog, by the returns made
to which, it appeared, that the number of
individuals in that parish, actually in dis
tress, amounted to two thousand one hun
dred and fifty four. At a general meet
ing of the Clergy and Gentry of the
Barony of Quhallnw, held at Kanturk.on
Friday, May the Slst 1822 ; it was re
solved, 11 That it appears to this meeting,
from the reports of the Clergymen in
each parish, that the Barony of Duha’tow,
in size as extensive as some counties in
Ireland, and larger than many in Englund
with a population of upwards of 5.UOO in
dividuals, is in a state of dreadful and
general distress ; that its wretched inha
bitants are falling victims to famine and
disease—famiue, occasioned by a scarcity
of provisions and want of employment—
and disease, the consequence of famine
and bad food.”— Cork Southern Reporter.
(Here follow numerous other reports of
local meetings, all describing the distress
as horrifying.)
County of Arm;/.—There is a sickness
of heart arising from hope deferred. Such
sickness iB the forerunner of despair, and
in this deplorable condition is the starv
ing population of this town and district
at present placed. We regret that very
little comparative relief is perceivable
here. For the last three or four mornings
at an early hour, it wob lamentable to be
hold groups of starving labouzers parading
our streets, at length they formed a large
assemblage, and proceeded to the houses
of several gentlemen in this town, seek
ing work, and declaring they were most
anxious to labour for their bread ; (bat
they and their families were famishing,
anil that if something was not done for
their relief they must either plunder or
perish ! And, indeed, if something be
not promptly done, hundreds of human
beings, of our wretched feliow-men must
inevitably perish befure twelve or four
teen days have passed away, and thou
sands before the middle of next month.

opportunity to realize, acting no doubt upon
the impression that very large stocks still re-
main in the different ports of the U. States ;
which idea is probably correct, though we can
hardlv bring ourselves to think that the rumor
is well founded to its full extent; if it is, your
crop must have produced several thousand
bales more than was ever known, which in ad
dition to what we have on hand, would afford
good ground for the present depression.

A VERY superior Steam Saw Mill has bee*
recently er^oted in the vicinity of the
C\T\ OF D.IBAFX,
as the most eligible qjjgamtion for • business of
the kind on the Atlantic tliorca of the Unite!
States. Possessing all the advantages of an in
exhaustible supply of the finest yellow pitch
Pine and Cypress Timba, built tin a fine bluff,
with thirteen feet water close to it, sod • natural
cove for the reception of logs.
The present owners not having It in theif
power to bestow that attention to it whjch *
concern ofsuch magnitude requires, are desir
ous or eeltiny the tthole, or a part offlheir inter
est in it, and non offer it fer tale at a very low
valuation, and mien leu than such a elructurt
could be eomplclotl for.
There hu just been added to it t very supe
rior Nice PomtUnf Machine, capable of dis
charging at least 50 tierces of clean rice per
duy i and a Corn.Mill, all set in mqtion by the
same engine.
The Saw-Mill is upon t new principle, by
the late renowned Civil Engineer, Mr. KEN*
NIE of London, who sent out one of his belt
workmen to superintend its erection. It cats
now cut with 48 saws, and may be made to drive
twice that number.
The Steam Engine is perhaps the best in
the United States; made by Messrs. BOLTON
U WATT, of Soho, near Birmingham; and
erected under the inspection of their best foie,
man, tent out expressly for that purpose,
A wonderful rxpence it saved in fuel, si the
saw-dust from the pitch-pine i« found to aaswer
instead of fire-wOod, and is carried to the
mouth of tlie furnace from the pit by elevator,
now in use.
The Rice Machine is also on > new principle
and found by experience to tnswer better thus
any yet in use. The quickness and regularity
of the movement, producing it of a superior
brightness without breaking the grain.
T he mill ia titoated-on a fine Creek, called
Cat-Head, on a branch of the Altsmsha Rive/,
and only about half a mile from Darien.
- Sea Veasels, whose dtaught of water enables
them to go to the wharf at Darien, can load et
the Mill, only a short distance off, with greet
facility i as an endlined plane from the mil), will
enable them to reoeive the lumber into their
bow ports, almost without expence: anil tha
mill, as now in operation, can furnish 40 M. fret
of plank per dey, which may be increased if
found necessary i the power being amply suffi
cient.
The lumber sent from this establishment since
it went into operation has been allowed to be
superior in quality and regularity in sawing.
The commissioners of the Navy of the Uni
ted States hive approved of the ship planks;
furnished from it, and it ia highly probable will
give it a preference in future contract..
It baa also been seen and justly admired ia
New-York and Philadelphia.
The prospect of a renewed interconrse with
the British West India Islands, renders thi*
establishment e desirable mode of investment—
offers, in that case, having been made from
JAMAICA ALONE, for about tndf of aiilbe pro.
