NOTICE.
T HE amount of seven and six per cent Stocks
authorised to be subscribed by the first sec
tion of the act passed the 20th April, 1828, en
titled “An act to authorise the Secretary of the
Treasury to exchange a Stock bearing an inter-
*t of five per cent, for certain stocks bearing
an interest of six and seven per cent," not hav
ing been subscribed, the proprietors of six per
cent stocks of 1812, 1813, 1814 and 1815, and of
•even per cent stock of 1816, who may wish to
avail themselves of the provisions of the third
section of the act, are hereby informed, that
books have been opened at the Treasury for
receiving subscriptions pursuant thereto, and
will continue open until the first of October
next.
The subscriptions may be made by the pro
prietors of the 9tocks specified, either in person
or by their attorneys, duly authorised to make
the subscriptions und transfer the stocks to the
United States, thb^fifrOficates of which are to
be surrendered at lnv Treasury at the time of

Cherry Hill lor Sale.
Vuluable Plantation in Bryan county, sit-
uated on the south side of the Great
Ogechee river, about 5 miles below Hill’s
Bridge, and 20 miles from Savannah, contain
ing two tmgf* 1 ml and ninety acres of river
iwamp of the first quality, on an excellent pitch
of tide, two hundred of which are cleared and
under dams i and three hundred and fifty seven
acres of high land of mixed qualities, one hun
dred and fifty of which are cleared and fenced.

first springs of water in the low country. There

hundred acres of pine Inna, from which all the
lumber, rails, staves, &c. to be used on the

AN ACT
To establish a tribunal to enquire into the qual
ifications oftpersons claiming to practice Me
dicine, Surgery, and Midwifery, within 1he
city ufSavAtinan, and to grant eertHHiUis to
thossnme, if found properly qualified.
Whereas, it appears oy a memorial of the
Mayor and Aldermen of the city of Savannah,
that the good people of said city, and especially
the poor ami illiterate people thereof, have suf
fered heretofore much evil tram the want of
proper laws to regulate the practice of medi
cine, surgery, and midwifery therein, (lie con-
sequence of which want bus been the Indiscri
minate and arrogant,pretentious and undertak
ings of manv unlearned and empirical persons
to practice therein in the said arts: And where
as, sound policy and a proper regard for the
healths and lives of tlte citizens of a commercial
pomjlous, and growing city, require that the le
gislature should guard against such an evil for
tlte future:
§1. Bo it therefore enacted, by the Senate
and House of Representatives of the state of
Georgia, in general assembly met, and it is
hereby enacted by the authority of the same,
That the Qeovgli Medical Society, established
in the city of Savannah, shall be invented with,
and possessed with full power pnd authority to
examine, enquire into, Investigate, and deter
mine on the professional qualifications, attain
ments and capacities of all and every person or
persons claiming to practice within the limits of
the said city in the said arts nf medicine; suruery
and midwifery, or in any two or oncofthenv
and to grant certificates of qualification under
tlte common seal of>thesaid society, or,,if tltdrd
be no common seal, under the signs nulmial of
their president and secretary, to him, her, or
them so churning and making application there,
for, if by a majority of said soclt ty, be, she, or
they shall he deemed duly learned and qualifi
ed, Ami it altall he the duty of the members of
the said society, when application shall be nvtde
by any person jor pcrflbns, for his, her or their
examination to the end aforesaid, to convene at
their customary place of meeting, audio decide
upon the applicant’s petition, within ten days
atter they shall have been summoned to convene
by their president, or in his absence, sickness,
or other inability, by tlte person or persons dis
charging his duties, or if there ho not any such
person or persons, after they shall have been
summoned by their secretary. And It shall bo
this duty of the said pre sident, person or per
sons performing his duties, or secretary, to sum
mon each and every member of the said society,

shall be found duly learned and qtiulified to
practice in the said oris of surgery, medicine,
and midwifery^ or in any tw^oi one of them:
And provided also, that in their examination,
the said society shall be restricted and confined
to the investigation of professional attainments
and capacity alohe,. without regard to any lor-
m el* or present professional or moral reputation,
and shall not at any time require as a test ol
qualification, or any degree of evidence thereof,
that liny applicant should have obtained a diplo
ma from any medical college or iutiyernity,
should have stud ed theycauxjr elsewhere.
§ 2. And be it further enacted, by the author,
ity aforesaid, That if, after application shall

shall severally fail to take the oath aforesaid, or
having taken such oath, shall fail to proceed to
the examination aforesaid, and to a decision
thereupon, or if Ihe said society shall in any re
spect violate the provisions of this act, it shall
be the duty of tlte judge of the superior coufrl
of the county of Chatham, upon the pet ition of
the party injured, setting forth any such failure
or violation, ana supported by his affidavit of
the truth of such petition, to grant, as a
matted of right, a writ of scire facias, direct
ed to ‘ the president and members of the said
society, requiring the fiatti society to shew
cause at the next term of the said court,
why their charter or act of incorporation should
not be deemed forfeited. A copy of this writ
and of the petition shatl be served upon the
president or secretary, and if the allegations be
denied, an issue shall be joined, and the facts
be tried by a jury empancelled and sworn >s in
other cases. If the allegations of the petition
be found tobe true, or if they be admitted, and
no good cause be shewn, it shall be the duty of
the court to adjudge the charter forfeited, and
to order execution to issue for costs against any
property of the said society. If no appearance
be filed on the first day ol the term, or if having
appeared, good cause be shewn for the former
failure of violatioiftll shall be the duty of the
court, upon application of the parly injured, to
appoint a day not more remote than tendays,on
which the society shall convene, and conform

O N the petition of the Trustees of the Ger
man Lutheran Church at Ebenczer, stating
that the said Job Freyormuth on the fifteenth
day of April, eighteen hundred W fifteen, mort
gaged by deed under seal to the petitioners, all
those tracts of land, containing three hundred
acres in Effingham county, state aforesaid, on a
small creek adjoining Judidiah W oilman Kelly’s
and Garrison’s land; also another fifty acres, sit
uated and being in the district of Ebenezeri
bounded by Inna of Peter Arnetoff h F. Brook-
ners, at the time of survey grunted to Landfel-
det'j ulso,another tract of land situate in the sev-
enteeth di'Vict of the county of Baldwin, con
taining two hundred and two and a half acres,
known by the number (104) one hundred and
our, with the appurtenances, to secure the pay
ment of a bond or obligation of the said John,
best ing dale the day and year aforesaid pray
ing the foreclosure of the said mortgage. It ap
pearing to the Court that there is now due on
the suid bond and mortgage the sum of two hun
dred dollars, with interest at six per cent, from
the fifteenth day of April, eighteen hundred &
eighteen. On motion of Wayne and Ctiylcr, at-
totneys of the petitioners, it is ordered that the
said John Freyermuth, his heirs or representa
tives, do pay into Court the amount due as a-
forest!d within twelve months from this date,
otherwise that the equity of redemption of the
said John and his heirs, in the said mortgaged
premises, be foreclosed, and that such further
proceedings take place as are by law directed.
It is further ordered that thjp Rule be pub
lished once a month for twelve months in a pub
lic gazette of this state, or be served on the de
fendant or his- representative or agent six
months prior to the time appointed for the pay
ment of the;money into Court.
