third story of the Is use between eight and
nine o’clock in the evening, by the acuttle

doubt for the purpose of concealing him
■elf, and robbing it at leisure during the
night, and placed himself in the bedroom of
two young ladies, daughter* of Mr. Caton

ed, when, on going to their room, prepara
tory to going to mt, they perceived the
feet and part of the legs of u man beneath
the doors of a clothes press, in which he had
hastily taken shelter and barely closed them
•efficiently to conceal his body. The
young la-Jiea immediately shrieked for as
sistance, and attempted to fly, when the
"villain rushed from his hiding place, and
ty blown several times repeated before as-
sistauee could be rendered, knocked them
both down insensible on the landing place ot
the stairs, which, with the wull, was sprin
hied with blood. He then, it is presumed
mode his escape by the way he entered
cr by the stairs to the street, and
though the most diligent search was Im
mediately made, no traces of him could
be found. The villain must have been
acquainted with the building, or he could
sot have 10 easily eluded his purauera. The
oft by which be entered the house, com
municates without any partition with seve-
val new buildings, through which it is sup
posed he entered. The two victims to
this brutal assault, arc mm h bruised and
