(J51INCE the adaption of our inestimablv
Constitution, there has been no period

every cause of diaaentlun—they should
crush the monster in its incipicncy, if they
do not wish to find that f tvt- rnal discord is
the sure foicrur.ner of disunion and de

reign within—-the glitte* ing fabric wdl soon

It is not to be inferred, however, that the.
Pacificator will be neutral or passive in the

must be distinctly understood, that the pa

frequently mistaken for a true devotion to
principles of honor. Hence the bigot and

MOUNT ZION INSTITU
TION.
jrpifE regular course of irtstruetion in
<LL this Seminary will commence on the
first Monday in January, 1823, The public
are well acquainted with the literary char
acter of this Institution, and are disposed,
tis believed, to appreciate its merits. It
•ias been for ten years in successful and
unremitted operation; and it is a considera
tion peculiarly cheering to, the hearts of
•liflSe whose reputation and labours have
been identified with its existence and
; rospcrity, that a greater number of clna
sicnl scholars have been instructed during
that period, within its walls, than for the
same length cf time in any other Academy
inthe State ’ F01 the correctness and va
lue of (he instruction Cnmunicatcd, the
public are referred to those young gentle
men who have received their education
either wholly or in part at this institution.
-Many of them have already entered upon
the active professions in life, who do cre-
•Ji» (0 the place of their education, and
who cannot faii, in process of time, to^'sus
tain an honourable rank among the promi
nent characters of our State.; The acquire
ments and reputation of scholars, furnish
the best testimony ot the competence and
fidelity of teachers.
It hus been the Aim of the Instructed in
this Institution to make tuohouou scho
lar, rather than to acquire an ephemeral
reputation b> teaching ” a muss of things,
but nothing distinctly”—and thus leaving
•he pupil to become a mere matterer at
last. Those who would form a correct o-
pinion as to the manner in which the Latin
•»nd Greek Classicks are taught, are re
quested to consult the literary gentlemen
who have from time to time a'tended the
public examinations in these branches of
liberal education. In the common bran
ches of an English education—in the high-
er departments of literature and science—
n composition and elocution, the exam-
nations speufc for themselves.
Mount Zion certainly presents many ad
vantages ns a place for the education of
youth; and these advantages cannot be
overlooked by those parents who intend to
send thelrchlidren abroad for this purpose.
The expenses are as moderate us in any
other part of the country—it is a place of
unusual health—special attention is pa'ulto
the conduct and morals of the students ;
and there are now in the Institution a num-
ner of young gentlemen, who have made
considerable advances in science, and whose
example cannot fail to exert a favourable
influence overthe minds and habits of those
who arc in the incipient stages of their ed
ucation.
To parents and guardians the subscriber
