houses of several petsona already acquitted,
and to the House of Correction, in which not
only tho agents of the late police, hut also
debtors and cheats, were confined ; many of
theln were put to donth, and their bodies
were hung up without much ceromony. In
this way thirty fivo persons lost thoir lives
during the first night. Among them were
Goncrals Jankowski, llukowski, Hurting,Sa-
lacks, and Bcntkowski; the Russian Chain*
berlain Fustiani; a Russian Lady of tho name
of Bnzanow ; tho Counsellor of Stale Hanc-
kiowiez, who had been acquitted ; Major Pc-
trikowski, and several police agents. I,es-
sel, tho confectioner, who had beau acquit-
ted, was saved with much difficulty by Gen.
Klukowiecki.
Yesterday, about noon, a Russian captain
of cavalry, who had been wounded and taken
prisoner, was torn from the wagon as it en
tered tho city, and cruelly murdered. In tho
afternoon Rawecki, the curator of the schools,
was hung at a lamp-post. During the night
Gon. Krukowiecki was re-nppointed Govern
or of tho city. His first measure was to send
for military reinforcements, so that a repeti
tion of these horrors is scarcely hi ho ex
pected. The French and Austrian Consuls
had already demanded their passports, tho
Government being no longel in a condition
to afford them protection. To day, however
in compliance with a wish intimated to them,
the> have determined not to set off ns yet.—
Today tho Government hitherto existing has
been dissolved, and General Krukowiecki
ihss boon placed at tho head of the now Go
vernment, with very extended powers. Du
ring the hour* of terror ho displayed much
energy and personal bravery. He has alrea
dy had tho President and ten members of the
club arrested. By virtue of the powers plac
ed in his hands, lie hns appointed General
Prondzynki to the chief command in the ar
my, who is said to have already accepted tho
-appointment.
