Tho members of tin* Slock Exchange were
yesterday prepared fur tho rejection of the
Hill; am) tho correctness of thin r information
it proved by the fuel, that it was then slated
that it would bo lost by a majority of forty.—
It han boon an generally understood that the
Miaiatera will remain m offleo, nnd that the
rejection of the Bill, bv tho Ijor<ln, is not to be
considered decisive Of its fate, and many,
consequent Jyhnvo doomed it premature to dis
cuss tho ultorior measures which should he
adopted hy the people. Hut it was scarcely
possible not to fcave tho ultiinato loan of the
Bill, and to avoid tho consiilcraiion of the
consequences. Wu hnvo taken Homn pairs
to obtain information n« to tho indications of
tho state of tho public inind, in the metropo
lis, and tho epuntry, on the protent crisis.—
Tho following are a few of tho facts which
have como to our knowledge •
It is known * in tho city that considerable
purchase* have recently been made of Ainori-
C in atock.
There is reason also to believe that per
sons have provided themselves with small
amounts of gold, nnd properly eas.ly avail
able in emergencies: hut great caution is
used not to create any alarm, and tho^pur-
poses are Seldom avowed.
At the clubs, and other places of mooting
of the trading classes m tho metropolis, van-
ous plans of the formal ion of a national guard,
have been tho subject of discussion.
We have been informed that in several dis
tricts of the metropolis tho tax-gatherers have
boon Informed by the inhabitants on whom
thoy hnvo called, that tho ttOros which they
havo recently collected would be the last
which they would have to receive, unloss the
reform bill wore carried. Tho diet nets to
which we allude are not t hose in which a do-
termination has been evinced, with reference
to tho laves called rates l upcscd by self*
elected bodies, to net upon th * constitutional
principle* that taxation without represonla-
tion is illegal; namely M iry-le-bone, St.
Poncrns, mid Islington p reslies. Wo may
tnontion as an instance of (he quiet mode in
which these determinations will he carried
into clfuct, that the inhabitants of St. Mur-
tin's parish, without calling any public meet
ing. or making any outward demonstration,
have rut used to pay their last poor-rate.—
Tho amount which it was expected to pro
duce is, perhaps, jG'J.000: ami of this amount
probably not more than .CiOO has been col
lected, and that it is believed has been paid
hy those who had not been consulted, nnd
who knew nothing of the determinntion of
uther inhabitant* to rolW payment,

Henry Haiti win, Esq. one ofthe justices ofthe
Supremo Court of tho United States, and to
be citations to the State of Georgia, to appear
in the Supremo Court on the second monday
in January next to show cause before that
Tribunal, why two several judgements should
not be a t aside, which have been lately ren
dered in tho Superior Court of tho county of
Gwinnett against Samuel A. Worcester and
Hlisur Dutler, for a violation of an existing
Law ofthe State, committed within its juris-
dictiaual limits. Also, a copy of tv notice
purporting to be signed by Win. Wirt, nnd

averugc weekly out-going of that year, 13,247
bales was equal to nearly thirteen weeks
consumption. This inadequate -upply gave
nse to tin? extensive apcculat on of 1815.
According to the above estimate tho total
stock in the ports on the 31st Dec. next, nitty
probably be reduced to 210,000 bales, which,
ut the ay- rage weekly out-going of 1H.IMHJ

lienee, taking into consideration tho pres
ent rate of consumption, high duty ami de

ble that so material u reduction of stock can
tuke pi ico without a material advance in
prices.

our opinion is, tho Chinese will prove stub
born and unyielding, at least untif they see
and feel a naval and military force upon their

the Islands East, have become exceedingly

Europe, have no doubt hastened the recent
events in Canton. The Chinese government
believe that the chances in progress among
the nations of Europe will essentially and
