Mr. Thomas L. Oluistcad, of Subligna,
has placed upon our table, a sample of a
rock resembling quartz, of which he sa,s
there is a largo bluff near Cedar Point in
this county, owned by Mr. Jack Law
rence. He represents it as resembling
water running over a precipice an 1
frozen. lie being engaged in burning a
brick kiln not far away from it, burstod
off about two agon loads of it, and burnt
it. It turned out the purest, whitest
lime, we have ever seen, a sample of

Mr. J. T. Furman and lady came into
i town Tuesday last in a buggy, driving a
mule, and bitched to the rack just as a
man would that had come on horseback;
that, i to say, without taking die mule
loose from the burgy. And from some
causo unknown. the mule became
j frightened, broke loose from the rack,
j run away, striking the co unin of an
I awning, breaking the buggy so badly that
it was left whore it struck. It seem- that
the ways of a mule arc past finding out,
and should serve as a warning that a mule
will not do to trust.

Our village was thrown into some ex

night about 12 o'clock, by the hallooing
of a gentleman around at several Houses
in town, who was endeavoring to find the
residence of tho Ordinary of the county.
Calling at our gate, we directed him as
well as wo could, which under bis excite
ment he seemed to understand. He then
inquired of us for a Justice of the Ponce,
when we told him that functionary lived
about one mile out in the country, ho ex
claimed, “Why, it will be daylight by the
time we get through.” Finding he was
working for his friend, and that he was
s' licitous to have it over, we to! 1 him if’
the papers were all right, to bring bis
party immediately t j our office, and we’d
end the matter as best we could. Ac

| We have often road in the newpapers of
tho gtand success of’ medical compounds
put up at tho North and elsewhere.
Many of those medicines have had their
day, and we hear no more of them. Their
proprietors have made fortunes, not so
much from the curative powers and vir
tues of their mixtures, as from the noto
riety given them by advertising, by which
pe.i pie were made to believe nil the good
that was said of them. A preparation is
now before the public which is becoming
very popular,.an lis known as Bradlicld s
