Good.— We are glad to announce the re
organization of the Council. We had oc
casion to see our new Marshal use his au
thority a day or two since, and at once
came to the conclusion that he was a man of
great strength, brave and determined, and
not to be trifled with. We do not believe
he is one who would abuse his authority.
Our new councilman are men of character
and standing, arid mean business.
tVE have among our exchanges the
Oastroville Argus, from the far off Salinas
Valley, California. It is a spicy little sev
en column sheet, well stored with news of
the Pacflc coast. Often in ouv day-dreams
our thoughts carry ns to that wonderful
region, and we seem an actual witness of its
unrivaled beauty. Why it is, we cannot
tell, but to us it is the land of romance,
outshining all the fabled glory of the
strange, wired fascinating Orient of i/M.
On the fourth, the members of f*,n aesoeU
ation of colored men; called the Link Lodge
bad a celebration. They marched in rega
lia from town to a beautiful grove in front
of the residence of D. R. Beall, Esq, where
large tables were spread and covered witn
everything good in the eating line. In the
language eff a friend who is alwavs
hungry “there was lots and cords of rich
food.’’ Col. Weaver, who chanced to be
present, was earnestly invited to address
them, which he did in an impromptu speech
full of sound, practical advice, entreating
them to educate themselves and children
morally and socially, as th 6 only means to
secure a legitimate and permanent elevation
of the race. After the speech, the good
things on the long tables before them were
discussed. In the overling Dr. Bryan pho
tographed the Lodge as it was drawn up in
line in front of our office.
Tits Tsans-Atlantic Magazine—We
have upon our desk the June No. of this
new and promising periodical. The table

articles from all the principal magazines of

the short time that has elapse 1 since its
birth, has increased its circle of realers
amazingly. A glance at its pages will
satisfy one of its great worth. T. e old and
popular Chambers' Journal contributes one
of its poetic gems—The Daffodil; Golden

Ayer’s Sarsaparilla,
FOR PHIII YIIG THE BLOOD,
i The reputation this ex
eefient medicine enjoys,
h> derived from its cures,
' Jja many of which, are truly
/X k marvellous. Inveterate
cases of Scrofulous dis
/j ~., ease, where the system
**’l seemed saturated with
corruption, have been
« '**!» purified and cured by it.
Scrofulous affections and
disorders,which were ag
gravated by the scrofu
"V* ,- lous contamination until
they were painfully afflicting, have been radically
cured in such great numbers in almost every' sec
tion of the country, that the public scarcely* need
to be informed of its virtues or uses.
Scrofulous poison is one of the most destruc
tive enemies of our race. Often, this unseen and
unfelt tenant of the organism undermines the con
stitution, and invites the attack of enfeebling or fa
tal diseases, without exciting a suspicion of its
presence. Again, it seems to breed infection
throughout the body, and then, on some favorable
occasion, rapidly develop into one or other of its
hideous forms, either on the surface or among the
vitals. In the latter, tubercles may be suddenly
deposited in the lungs or heart, or tumors formed
in the liver, or it shows ifs presence by eruptions
on the skin, or foul ulcerations on some part of
the bodv. Hence the occasional use of a bottle
of this Sarsaparilla is advisable, even when no
active symptoms of disease appear. Persons af
flicted with the following complaints generally
find immediate relief, and, at length, cure, by the
use of this SARSAPARILLA: St. Antho
ny’s Fire, Rose or Erysipelas, Tetter, Salt
Rheum, Scald Head, Ringtrorm, Sore Eyes,
Sore Ears , and other eruptions or visible forms
of Scrofulous disease. Also in the more con
cealed forms, as Dyspepsia, Dropsy, Heart
Disease, Fits, Epilepsy, neuralgia, and
the various Ulcerous affections of the muscular
and nervous systems.
Syphilis or Venereal and Mercurial Dis
eases are cured by it, though a long time is re
quired for subduing these obstinate maladies by
any medicine. But long-continued use of this
medicine will eupe the complaint. Leucorrhoea
or Whites, Uterine Ulcerations, and Female
Diseases, are commonly soon relieved and ulti
mately cured by its purifying and invigorating
effect. Minute directions for each case are found
in our Almanac, supplied gratis. Rheumatism
and Gout, when caused by accumulations of ex
traneous matters in the biood, yield quickly to it,
as also Liver Complaints, Torjridity, Conges
tion or Inflammation of the Liver, and Jaun
dice, when arising, as they often do, from the
rankling poisons in the blood. This SARSA
PARILLA.is a great restorer for the strength
and vigor.of the system. Those who are Lan
guid and Listless, Despondent, Sleepless,
and troubled with Ferrous Apprehensions or
Fears, or any of the affections symptomatic of
Weakness, will find immediate relief and con
vincing evidence of its restorative power upea
trial.

The component parts are BUCHU, LONG
LEAF, CUBEBS, JUNIPER BERRIES.
Mods of Preparation. — Buchu, in vacuo.
Juniper Berries, by distillation, to form a
fine gin. Cubeb* extracted by displacement
with spirits obtained from Jumper Berries;
very little sugar is used, and a small pr.>-»
portion of spirit. It is more palatable than
any now iu use.
Bue l au, as prepared by Druggist*, is of a
dark color* It is a plant that emits its Ira
granee ; the action ot a tlame destroys this
(its active principle), leaving a dark and
glutinous decoction. Mine is the color of
ingredients. The Buchu in my preparation
predominates ; the smallest quantity of tho
other ingredients are added, to prevent fer
mentation ; upon inspection it will be found
not to be a Tincture, as made in Phurma
copoea, nor is it a Syrup -and therefore can
be u.-ed in cases whore tever or inflamation
exist. In this, you have tho knowledge of
the ingredients and the mode of preparation.
Hoping that you will lavor it with a trial,
