Denver, Colo., March 15.—All sorts of wild rumors regarding the situation in the gubernatorial contests were in circulation today. One or these to the etfeot that two of Governoi Adams’ supporters in the joint legis lative convention had been kidnaped This kwhs verification. It is evident tMt Iike final vote will determine whether Cove mo r Alva Adams shall continue to bold the executive chair or shall surrender U to James H. Pea body vrftl be very close. It wire *u this account that the Pea bodjr tasters secured an adjournment of til© Joint convention yesterday. AI though 43 Republicans, only one less than a majority of the Joint convention, voted yeatsaday tor the recess, It la confidently asserted by Adams’ friends that Peabody will not have more than 44 votes in the final determination ol the contest. Three Republicans who voted for the recess have said that they did so merely to enable Senator Wood, who was absent yesterday, to be present when the vote in the con test is taken. The efforts of the Pea body leaders to have his contest treat ed as the political issue seem to have resulted, it Ls said, In finding mem bers who have pledged themselves not to vote for Peabody under any cir cumstances. It Is said that these Re publicans have even rejected a propo sitial to vote for Peabody on condi tion that be would resign immediately after being seated. The action Lieutenant Govorner McDonald, in casting the deciding rote on the mo tion for a Teceee yesterday has opened up a wide range of discussion. The Peabody and anti-Peabody Re publicans then conferred on a scheme to feat Peabody as governor with an understanding that h* will Immediate ly resign, leaving the office to Lieu tenant Governor McDonald. Northern and Southern Factions Can not Agree In Colony City. Fitzgerald, Ga., March 14.—Because of the division of the social element Into Northern and Southern factions, the business harmony of this place ls seriously menaced. It ls alleged that the Southern element has organized, with the Intention of ostracizing the Northern element, or at least, com pelling them to move In a separate circle. The Northern element, it ls claim ed, Is not openly organized, but there is a tacit, agreement among them, and with the exception of perhaps half a dozen Individuals, there ls a disposi tion to stand firm and refuse patron age or recognition to tho other side. The unique condition of affairs has progressed beyond the ludicrous, and is affecting various lines of business, one heavy property owner having withdrawn his patronago from the local Insurance firm, the wife of whose manager recently entertained the opposite set, and many purchasers are sending out of town for all neces sary supplies, rather than patronize firms connected with the movement.
