The petition of Mrs Susan Pitman re*pect- fully snows: First, theft she is guardian ol Margeret, Chyler, Leesie, Bffie and Maud Pit and being in the county of Lowndes, State of Georgia, and known aa that part given to C. Boone and W. H. Boone by their father, and State, containing two hundred i Third. That of said two hundred acres of land only forty acres are in cultivation a"d the remaining 160 acres even if cleared would not make good farming lands. Fourth. That said tract of land is all of the property held in trust for said wards and will be insufficient, if kept in its present condition, for their support, maintenance and education. Fifth. That there is no income from said lands except from such crops as petitioner can mnke thereon and no expenses attached to the keeping of name except taxes. Sixth. That petitioner is advised that she can obtain and has been offered the sum of one thousand dollars for said tract of land. Seventh. That petitioner desires to reinvest the proceeds of the snle of the said tract of land in the following land, to- wit: 120 acres of laud in Berrion county known as the Shaw lands and being on lot of land No. 142 in the 10th land district of said county. That on this tract of land there are forty acres of land more or less cleared and of the remainder at least seventy-five acres when cleared will make the best kind of farming lands. That Bald lands may be purchased for about fifteen hundred dollars. Eighth. That ssid lands in Berrien county •re adjacent to good school facilities where she can better educate said wards, snd peti tioner Is advised and believes it will be to the best Interest of said wards for this sale and reinvestment to be made. Ninth. Petitioner shows that notice of her intention to make this application has been published once a week for roar weeks in the Valdosta Times, snd that a copy of this peti tion has been served personally on the said wards and on their next of kin, Mr. J. The Crew Were Compelled to Work and a Mutiny Followed— The Trouble Began Near Norfolk Soon After the Ship Sailed Last Week—The Cook’s Work With Shotgun. New York, Oci. 23.—Four men were badly wounded In a series of battles between toe officers and crew oi the lumber laden schooner Ida B. Gibson, of Seaford, Del., and afterwards be tween Milton Cordery, the cook of the G-lbson and the police early today. For an hour about day break the cook, armed with a shotgun etood off the po. Hce reserves of the Delaney street sta- tion and wounded a detective and nifcht watchman. Frank H. Medley was missing today and may have been murdered by tn« crew of the Gibson who were compelled to pump the leaky craft all the way from Norfolk, Va., to New York. The trouble on the Gibson began soon after she sailed from Norfolk early last week. Before Bhe was clear of that port, she was run aground snd when floated, sprang a leak. The crew was ordered to the pnmps and compelled to man them all the way up the coast despite their portest and it wm learned the officer# of the Git- son were compelled to use force to put down the beginning of a mutiny. On arriving at Now York the Gib son,tied up at Fler 65, East Rforer, and the crew were paid off and discharged. At an early hour today Captain Brad ley, Frank Medley, the mate, and Mil- ton Oordery, the cook, were leaving a hotel near the vessel when they were set upon by a dozen men said to in clude the mob of the crew of the Gib son and friends, whom they had en listed. In the fight that ensued Cap tain Bradley received severe stab wounds in the side and shoulder, and the cook was slashed In the face. Notice. STATE OF GEORGIA—County of Lowndes. Oet. -151—-Three men fought a battle with pistols on an Eighth avenue car today and all ol them were seriously Injured. Thomas O’Brien, a truckman, had Jumped aboard the car at Thirty-first street, and, clapping a revolver to the conductor’s head, ordered him to run the car full speed, as he was pursued by a gang who inteded to kill him. A moment later two more men leaped upon the car and attacked the first, all three using revolvers. When their weapons were empty they clinched and fought with the butt# of their pis tols. The car rushed along tho avenue, the motorman pounding the gong and the conductor shouting for the police, as far as Twenty-sixth street, about half a mile, where several policemen boarded it and seized the three com batants. O'Brien had a bullet In the neck. H1b assailants gave their names as Henry Prang and Thomas Sullivan. The former had been shot In the neck and the latter In the leg and arm. The thre^ .were taken to a hospital. The police think the affray was the out- come of a feud in a notorious East Side gang. GENERAL STRIKE THREATENS. Workmen on New York Tunnel Refuse To Work with Nonunionlits. New York, Oct. 23.—A general •trike of workmen employed In the tunnel under the East river from For ty-Second street to Long Island City was decided upon yesterday to go into effect tomorrow morning unless a num ber of nonunion men are discharged today. Complaints have been made by the delegates of the safety engineers, the rock drillers, hoster runners and many others.
