The little spurt In the price of cot ton brought a large amount of. the staple to the city today. Mr. R. E. Hodson,. of Savannah, has moved to Valdosta and will suc ceed Mr. W. O. Player as the repre sentative of the Standard Oil Co. There is a rumor on the streets today that Valdosta is to have a new bank with a capital of $250,000. The promoters of the new enter prise are not ready to give out any Information about it at presen:. Rev. Frank Dixon’s lecture at the Valdosta Theater tonight will be one of the events of the season here. Mr. Dixon is a brother of Rev. Thomas Dixon and is said to he even a more eloquent orator than his brother. Sheriff Passmore and wife return ed from Macon Thursday evening. They carried their little son there for a difficult operation, and it is hoped that the little boy will get all right, now that it has been success ful performed. Mr. H. L. Smith, acting Superin tendent of the Southern Bell Tele phone Co., with headquarters In Sa vannah, was In town this week. A wire like that which is attached to the electric door bells, and a bat tery, were brought into service, and in a short while Mr. Plnder had a contrivance there that would • like a fire alarm when the weight at the other end was removed.
