On last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Swindle gave a dinner in honor of their son, J. N. Swindle ,who had reached his twenty-third mile post. Among those present were, Mr. James Swindle, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Par rish, C. C. and J. M. Smith, J. N. Swindle and Mrs. Martha Clements In Lie home, costing about $1,000 per month to maintain, and besides an en deavor Is being made to build the Mum- foru Memorial Hall, which alone costa $10,(MK>. , This home is non sectarian and In without county, state, or denomination al aid depending whol'y upon volun tary contributions. An especial appeal Is made that the auperlniendents and pastors of the Sun day schools and churches present this cause to their congregations and re quest a thank offering for November 30th—Thanksgiving Day. The negro was In charge of one of the wagons which was hauling clay from the excavation at the gas plant to a point where the gabg Is at work claying the roads. The first chance he jumped from the wagon and took to the woods. The escape was discovered shortly afterwards and the county dogs were put upon the negro’s track following It toward the Hightower place and back through the swamps toward Mr. Toni Smith s place and on across the road to Mud Swamp. The friends of Mr. Homer Brown and other Valdostnns who are connect ed with the Gordon-Brown Hardware Company, of Pensacola, w'll regret to know that that firm was burned out In tho recent fire in that city.
