The yield of the crops around here Is better than last year’s crop. Rev. E. L. Todd preached a fine sermon at Beaver Dam church last Sunday. Mr. Todd Is an able minis ter and we are glad to have him with us next year. Miss Rosa Allen, of near Nashville, hns been the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Margaret Swindle, for several days. Mr. Len Clements has accepted a position at Savannah and has left for that place. He has many friends throughout this vicinity who wish him much success there. Miss Polly Noles, who has been spending several months with friends and relatives, has returned to her home In Twiggs county. Mr. Jim Swindle made a business trip to Valdosta last Friday. AT WAYCR0SS By the Engineers and Firemen of the Atlantic and Blrmlni in 8alary and Contract mantled and Refuted, Waycross, Ga., Dec. 11—A strike of locomotive engineers and firemen on the Atlantic and Birmingham is imminent. The engineers and ftfemen of the road are nearly all members of the two brotherhoods and these organiza tions have authorized a strike. H. B Wills of Cleveland, Ohio, assistant grand chief engineer, and Timothy Shea, of Pretoria, III, assistant grand master fireman, have*been In the city several days representing the engi neers and firemen in .negotiations that have been in progress. An increase In salary and a con tract was requested several days ago of Vice President George D. Wadley, It was refused.
