Last June Winona Edwards killed her father, a farmer residing near Oak Hill, Ills., by shooting him through the head and then beating his brains out. The crime created In tense excitement, but before the cor- oner’s jury the girl produced proof that her father had tried to assault her and that In Bolf defense she had killed him. Americus, Ga, Dec. 13—In a free fight on Jackson street today, partici pated In by four negro women, Stel 1 y Williams shot Ellen Black dead. Three women attacked the Williams woman, one slicing her with a razor. The tragedy caused the greatest ex citement among the negroes In the city. 10,000 KILLED IN A WEEK. Refugees From Russia Tell Horrible 8tory of Slaughter. Boston, Dec. 14—Forty three refu gees, brought here today bu the Cunard steamer from Liverpool. Among them were men, women and children who escaped from Riga Vll- na, Kieff, Odessa and Kovno. They described scenes of slaughter at Odes sa In which Cossacks and police led rabble against Jews and Christians. Fury of the mob was not directed wholly against the Jews.
