The Case Against Postmaster Wise of Coffee County, Resulted in His Acquittai-—Case Wfce Ended This Morning. The Jury In the case of J. J. Par nell, accused of counterfeiting $5 gold pieces ,returned a sealed verdict yes terday and It was opened In court this morning The verdict was guilty with a recommendation of mercy. Parnell represented himself In the case, interrogating the witnesses and making his own argument .the court having appointed Mr. J. R. L. Smith, of Macon, to give him whatever legal assistance be desired The sentence of the court was fine of one dollar and service in the federal prison In Atlanta for one year and a day. “I make a motion for a new trial on a wnt of error,” said the prisoner. “That can come in the usual legal form.” responded Judge 8peer. “I want to put the court on nth tlce”— “Take the prisoner In charge”, said the court to the marshal and Parnell was led back to the Jail. The case has been quite an interesting one. Parnell denied his fcullt and stated that the moulds which were found and the evidence against him was the part of a scheme to shield other par ties. But the burden of the evidence was against him. Tampering With Love L-tters The next case this morning was against Postmaster Wise, of Pickren, Ga, who was charged with intercept ing letters written by Hlrnm Taylor, a dwarf, to Miss Mary Jane Odum, and of Inditing replies to them. It was all a Joke on the part of the post master, If he waB guilty at all, the letters being written by other parties. fetters alleged to have been "written by the young lady, all of which were filled with terms of endearment cal culated to stir the spirit of the love sick swain His answers to them were pretty warm, the entire corres pondence being read in court this morning. It leaked out that an affair of the heart would be aired In court during the morning and a large crowd. In cluding many ladles, were In attend ance Much of the evidence In the case was given In yesterday, the young tally In the case being one of the wit nesses. She was rigidly examined by the lawyers and Judge Speer, him self, asked some questions that would throw light on the case, was quite evident that she did not re gard all of the questions an being noeessary and some of her answers were tnrt. Another witness In the case was J. C. Powell a young white man who admitted writing the letters to which Miss Odum's namo wan signed, though he said that Wise dictated the substance of them. The' prosecutor In the case, though only about three feet tall, is much of a man for his size and Is said to be very intelligent, as well as sensitive. Ho was In court this morning when the letters which he wrote In answer to the bogus ones were being read. He stood the ordeal ns long ns possi ble and then left the room. What the Defendant Claimed. The defendant In the case was rep resented by J. M. Johnson and his line of defense was that no postage accompanied the letter which was first opened the letter led to the correspondence. The defendant la a merchant ns well ns postmaster, and It Booms that he redeems tobacco tags of certain brands at a half a cent each. Oimmock Says he Does Not Charge Anything for Vi- nol Unless it Gives Satisfactory Re sults When asked by a reporter of the Time- how he could make such a broad: offer in regard to any medicine, A. E. Dimmock replied: “If Vino) were a patent or secret pre paration it would be another thing, but it is not, everything it contains is named on the label. Vinol is simply the np-to date form of administering cod liver oil, which for centuries has been recognized as the grandest of all body-building agents for wasted human strength and vitality, and during the last five years we have seen it produce such grand results that we are cow willing to back it with any kind of a guarantee. In Vinpl we h *ve simply done away with the useless, system-clogging oil and have given to the people all the medicinal, body-building elements of cod liver oil in a highly concentrat- d and deliciously pjlat°,ble form, and we have never sold in our store a medicine of more curative and strength-creating value than Vinol, and if the people of Valdosta only realized its value we would not have clerks enough in our store to supply the demand for it. In a natural manner Vino! tones up the dig estive organs, makes rich red blood and creates strength. We nan only ask the people of Valdosta to try it on our guar antee.’ ’ A. E. Dimmock, Druggist.
