Plans for the Promotion of Naviga
tion are Afloat.
Macon, April 4.—At a meeting of
the Macon Chamber of Commerce
today, definite plana will be made
for opening navigation on tho Oc-
mulgee river to tho sea.
Officials state today that financial
hacking Is now In sight for a speedy
resumption of profitable navigation,
and wealthy shipping interests In
Brunswick and along the river are
marshaled to this end. Tho Navaga
Mon Committee of the body here has
been active since tho river Improve
ment began last month, and the
stream 1s now In excellent condition
for shipping.

“When tho doctor replied, “two
dollars," Welch sank into a chair
with a gasp and a minute later ex
pired. An autopsy showed that he
had died of valvular disease of the
heart.

Mr. W. J. Durant, who has been

( good deal to say around his homo
about the increasing demand Jor
Georgia chickens in that market.
, One of tho old honj evidently hoard
him talking on this line, and decid
ed to do her part towards meeting
the demand. A little over three
weeks ago she was set on twenty-
one eggs, and last Saturday she
came off the nest with twenty-four
chickens, some of the eggs being
doubles.
As wo have about all we can
stand up under in vouching for
things that happen we shift the re
sponsibility for this stor* ^to Mr.
Durant, who held up pretty well In
such matters in the past.
STRIKE WILL NOT HURT MUCH.
Savannah is Not Worried Much Over
the War of the Miners.
Savannah, Ga., April 3.—Loca'
coal dealers say that a coal strike
in the summer time will not have
much of an effect in Savannah. The
use of coal is reduced to a minimum
in Savannah during the summer.
The manufacturing enterprises who
use it the year round have not been
notified yet of any increase In price.
Dissolution Notics.

prietors of the Valdosta Meat Mar
ket, has this day been dissolved by
mutual consent. J. W. Davis has
sold his interest in the business to
G. F. Huckaby, to whom all ac*
counts due the firm should be paid,
and who will pay the Indebtedness
of the firm.

A Row at Odd Fellows Hall.
Ther© was a row at the negro Odd
Fellows hall last night and Police
man Gates was summoned to the
scene to make some arrests. It
seems that a negro girl knocked off
the hat of Jim Davis’ head and he
resented It. The girl's brother took
a hand in the row, and the disturb
ance became so serious that some
one in attendance summoned a polic -
man.. Officer Gates arrested Jaheth
Brown, Viola Bryant. Jim Davis and
Hattie Smith. Bonds of ten dollars
were required oj each of them, and
they will answer for their conduct
before the Recorder next Monday.
Reckless Bicyclist Arrested.
A negro boy named A. L. Williams
was arrested at the corner of Hill
avenue and Ashley street yesterday
afternoon charged with reckless rid
ing. Ho came dashing down the
street anl ran into two ladies who
were crossing the street at that
place. Neither of the ladles were
Injured, but a policeman grabbed the
negro before he could mount his
wheel anj start off again.
