RAWLINGS CASE IS

•fciefon Will be Held to Give Final
Hearing to the Caee.
(From Tuesday’s Dally.)
In ordor to give the defendants’
counsel sufficient time to perfect the
details of the’ appeal for executive
clomency, the cases of J. G. Raw
lings and his two sons, Jesse and
Milton, charged with the murder of
the two Cartor children in Lowndes
county, will not be taken up by the
state pardon board until the first part
of Juno.
It w r as thought that the plea for
commutation of the sentences of the
condemned men to life imprisonment
would bo heard at the May meeting
of the board, but it has been finally
decided to dispose of the cases at the
next regular meeting.
Owing to the fact that the Rnw-
lingMos have been only respited until
Juno 8th. it Is probable that a special
sosBlon of the board will be called.
Following the refusal of the United
States supreme court to grant a new
trial to Rawlings and his sons, the
Bovornor respited the men until June
Sth, as some time would be required
for the mnndnte of the federal court
to bo received by the state supreme
court and the remlttur forwarded to
the suporior com ij of Lowndes coun
ty.

A movement Is on foot to divide
the southern judicial circuit.
This movement is still in an em
bryonic state, but later it may de
velop Into such proportions as to
cause some action to be taken in the
matter.
A 'prominent Thomasville attorney
speaking of the matter yesterday said
that he believed the movement would
meet with the hearty approval of
nearly every lawyer in /the circuit
aud that while he could, riot speak
authoratatively, he believed it would^
be approved by the Judge. ^
The Southern circuit is at present
composed of the countied of Thomas,
Brooks, Colquitt, Grady, Lowndes,
Berrien, Echols and Tift.
The proposition at present is to di
vide the circuit so that Thomas,
Brooks, Grady and Colquitt will form
the Southern circuit and the other
four counties another circuit. for * damage accruing from the fire
