THE COAL FAMINE STILL ON.
Industries Here Have Very Little Coil
slid Railroads are Short
(From Tuesday’s Daily.)
The coal supply in Valdosta is still
short, there being no coal for sale by
the dealers and very little in the bun
kers of the various industries here
that use coal.
The Georgia Southern and Florida
road has about two day's supply at it:
schute here, counting two car load
that were received last night. The
Strickland Cotton Mills has only about
one day’s,supply and it is feared that
tba ( mlil will have to close down un-
legs 'some fuel arrives.
The mill has about sixty car loads
ordered, but -much of it has been con
Jbcated by the railroads. That has
caused the mill to run entirely out of
coal. President Strickland tried this
morning to get a small amount from
the Georgia Southern, but It did not
have any to spare.
The city seems to be about the only
coal user here that has a quantity of
coal. It has about two hundred and
fifty tons at the water works plant,
which is enough to keep the machin
ery going for several weeks.
The city recently did a little experi
menting with coal which shows that
the best Is the cheapest. Its regular
coal costs 13.40 a ton, but some days
ago four car loads were bought at
cost of $6.46 a ton. A record was
kept to see how It would hold out.
It was found that three tons of the
high price coal would last as long as
six tons of the cheaper coal and that
the work of unloading, feeding and re
moving clinkers was also reduced by
half.
From the cheap coal there are us
ually several loads of clinkers a day
but from the best grade there was
less than a wheelbarrow load, showing
that the better coal goes to create
heat, while much of the poorer grade
goes to waste.

With a few exceptions the charac

APPEAL8 TO 8UPREME COURT.
Jim Johnson wasjljtofused New Trial
by Judge*'Mitchell.
Jim Johnson, In Jail here under the
sentence of life imprisonment for the
msassinatloh of Ms father J. A.
Johnson will have his case reviewed
by the supreme court. The papers
were filed with clerk of the court
Clark several days ago, and
will go forward in a day or two to
the supreme court.* *.
Attorney J. A. Wilkes, who repre
sents Johnson, first made a motion
for a new trial. This was heard In
the chambers on the 28th of Decem
ber and the motion was overruled by
Judge Mitchell.
iSollcttor Thomas was served with
a bill of exceptions on the 12th day
of January and the papers were filed
on the 15th. The clerk has until the
frigid

from muscle to muscle or Joint to joint, settling on the nerves, causing
inflammation and swelling and auch terrible pains that the nervous system
Is often shattered, the health undermined, and perhaps the patient becomes
deformed and crippled for life. 8. S. S. thoroughly deanses the blood and
renovates the circulation by neutralizing the ac ids and expelling all foreign
matter from the ayatem. It warms and Invigorates the blood 30 that instead
of a weak, sour stream, constantly deposit*
