uilte on the Tsrlff Issue. '
It Is apparent that the tariff Issue
Is tho one on which all Democrats
can unito better than on any other.
Many members of tho party are now
convinced that a tactical mistake was
made last year In not forcing a tariff
fight Instead of supporting some of
Roosevelt policies. Failure to
push the tariff to the front In the
last session of Congress has result
ed In the loss of a year and has giv
en the Republican leaders an oppor

political moves for which they are
noted. Quick to see tho Indications
Democratic line-up In favor of
tariff revision these adroit politicians
have once more come forward with
the promise that "the tariff Is to be
revised by its friends. They have
made this promise on the eve of po
litical campaigns and have broken
It so often after the ballots were
counted that they realize that some
thing new is needed this time.
Therefore, they are preparing to
come forward with a specific plan for
tariff revision..

made to serve as the minimum and
maximum rates can be made from
twenty to fifty per cent higher.
President Roosevelt favors a min

other plan must be adopted—that

Many Porkers Killed. ,
It Is doubtful If there has been a
time In many years when there were
more hogs killed In the 'wine length
of time than have been- butchered
In the past day or two. Nearly every
farmer In the county hns hod to kill
hogs and many of them have killed
them by the score.
It la aald that the McRees have
killed about two hundred and fifty
head of hogs this season. Mr. T. M.
Smith haa killed about one hundred
head, Including forty or fifty head
that wero "killed this week. Many
other large farmers hare killed many
porkers.
Mr. T. M. Smith pseked his pork

saved. He will use Ico on that whldh
