A Young Lady From Madison Died
Miss Alice Smith Came Her* on a
Visit to her Sister and Died After
an Illness of Three Weeks.—Mrs R.
B. Reppard, of Savannah, Died on
Yesterday.
(From Tuesday’s Dally.)

who came here some time ago to visit
her sister, Mrs. L. C. Cash, at 607 E.
Savannah avenue, died yesterday af
ternoon about six o’clock, after an
UfcxesB of about three weeks.
She had been having some fever
when sbg came here, but she did not
give up until about a week ago. For
two weeks she remained up but she
became so weak from the fever that
she was finally forced to take her
bed. For a week she seemed to # be
getting along very well and it wa>

PREACHER WILL NOW REMAIN.
An Effort to Frighten Rev. W. W.
McCord Results In his Locating.
(From Tuesday’s Dally.)
Evangelist W. Walsteln McCord,
who is well remembered In Valdosta
and throughout this section, has de
cided to accept the pastorate of a
church at Cocoa, Fla., and remain
there for awhile. He has been in
active evangelistic work for four
years and his health has been impair
ed. It is for the purpose of recuper
ating that he has decided to give up
his evangelistical work for awhile,
but there Is still another reason why
he decided to locate at Cocoa.
Mr. McCord has been holding a re
vival at Cocoa and during the meet
ing some very stubborn opposition
developed. At first, the minister was
threatened with a volley of aged hen-
fruit, but later on he received the
following letter; dated at Cocoa and
addressed to him:
“Dear Sir—This is to notify you
that your presence is no longer de
sired by the representative citizens
of Cocoa. If you do not make your
departure from our city at once there
will be an entertainment In your
honor that will surpass anything you
have thus far encountered In your
extensive wanderings. 'Nuff Sed’—
Committee.”
This somewhat nettled the preach
er, who was a soldier In the Spanlsh-
Amerlcan war before he decided to
become a soldier of the cross. He ha1
been In many tight places, so he de
cided to try Cocoa another round
Hence, N it was, he continued hli
meeting there for some time. The
church people stood by him solidly

who had met her on her visit to this
city. Her remains were carried to

here.

Nearly every one likes a fine
hair dressing. Something to
make the hair more manage
able; to keep it from being
too rough, or from splitting
at the ends. Something, too,
that will feed the hair at the
same time, a regular hair-food.

The Savannah Club Signs a Contract

toh
Savannah, Ga. # June 2.—At a meet
ing of the Executive Committee of
Savannah Automobile Club a contract
was signed with the Automobile
Club of America for an automobile
race to be run in Savannah
Thanksgiving day. The race is to be
over a new course which Is to be
provided by the County Commission*
ers and there will be at least 20 for
elgn cars entered. This Is guaran*
teed by the Automobile Club
America, the richest Automobile Club
in the United States.
The signing of this contract means
that Savannah has broken away on-
tirely from the American Automobile
Association with which it was afflll*
ated In Its last race. This is the
first serious deflection from the ranks
of the A. A. A. and it will cause a
big sensation in the Automobile
world. It remains to be seen whefiher
or not the American auto owners and
manufacturers will divide their alle
giance between the two big organise-
tionsV _ The A.7A. A. has declared that
it will outlaw any maker or owner
who permits his cars to run in the
race of the Automobile Clnb of Amer*
lea. The A. A. A. has cnarge of the
Vanderbilt Cup Race and the Gllddeo
tour while the A. C. A. will promote
the Briafcllff race and the Savannah
race each year.
The Savannah race is to be for A
trophy to be known as “The Grand
Prize of the Automobile Club of
America. “This Is a gold oup of
much value. It is expected that
there will be a series of elimination
races run a day or two before the
big race on Thanksgiving day. Mayor
George W. TIedeman, who closed the
contract with the A. C. A. arrived by
steamer this morning from New
York.

Congressman Charles G. Edwards
(has had hie first fist fight since his
campaign for re-election began. Yes
terday while going from Savannah to
point In Tattnal county whore he
was to speak he encountered Mr. J.
K. Burkhalter, Editor of the Tattnal
Times, published at Hagan. The
paper edited by Mr. Burkhalter has
been giving Mr. Edwards some hard
raps and the congressman took him
to task for it Finally Mr. Burkhal
ter called the statesman a liar and
the two men clinched. Mr. Edwards
sprained his hand where he hit the
member of the 4th estate. This was
the worst damage done.
