6. W. Hillery Tells a Very Strange
Slory ot His Absence.
He Left Home *t Remerton two
Months igo end When he Became
Conscious he was at Lynchburg,
V«.—Ho Declares That he gravel
led While In an Unconscious Con-
dltlon.
The Times told two months ago
of the sudden disappearance of G.
W. Hillery, who was employed
the weaving room at the Strickland
Cotton Mills and whose sudden dis
appearance created a sensation.
He told his wife when he left
home that he was going to a pressing
club and carried two suits of cloth
ing with him, both securely wrapped
In a piece of paper. He had some
money In his trunk, It was said, and
that disappeared with him, though
he carried none of his other things.
His wife, who was a bride of a few
months, thought veiry strangely of
his absence and his friends tried to
make many excuses for him. He
had conducted himself well In the
community and all were lothe to be
lieve that he had acted the part of a
deceiver.
A few days ago his wife received
news from him at Lynchburg, Va.
He wrote that he did not know how
he got there and was anxious to
come hack home, though he had -no
money. She sent him a ticket and
he arrived Sunday bringing
markable story with him. He de
clares that his leaving Valdosta was
a blank upon his mind. He knew
nothing of how he got away or where
he went to. When he gained con
sciousness he was on the streets of
Lynchburg clinging to the two suits
of clothes that he carried with him,
though the paper In which they were
wrapped was nearly worn off.
He says that he was taken up by
two men on the streets there and
sent to a hospital where he was giv
en good treatment. He finally real
ised where he was and that he had
left home about a month before that
time. He says that his mind was so
addled that he could not think of
writing to his wife for some time,
though he tried a number of times.
He says that when he started to
write he would begfn crying and do
nothing more.
He attributes his strange conduct
to a sunstroke. He says that he had
one eight years ago and that It took
him a long time to get over It He
did much work In the sun the day
before he left home and ho thinks
that It effected his mind.
After Hillery left here some one
got out the report thst he was mar
ried to another woman and It was
thought that that accounted for hls
strange action. Since hls return, he
has faced the maa who started that
report and the man has admitted
that Hillery Is not the man ho
thought he was.
Hillery has resumed hls work In
the weaving room at the Strickland
mills and Is very happy to be
home again.
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.
The Board Is Laying Plana to get
4 Rid of the old Poor Farm.
The members of the board of coun
ty commissioners went out to the
pest-house farm yesterday to see
about moving the county poor farm
to that place. The houses on the
present farm are in bad shape nSid
new ones must pe built. There has
been a strong sentiment In favor of
moving the farmland selling the old
place. It Is likely that the commis
sioners will build new houses on the
pest-house place, as there Is plenty
of room there, and dispose of the
old farm when a good opportunity
offers.
The commissioners are also fixing
to do some needed repairs to the
court house. A door Is to be. cut In
the court room, leading from the
north side Jury box to the Jury
rooms. Some vault doors are also to
be put In.
The commissioners recently fixed
the tax rate at 50c on the 1100. At
the end of the last meeting. It was
shown that the county has 122,000 on
hand and none of the taxes for this
year had been collected. The out
look Is that the end of the year will
find the county In excellent shape.
The commissioners are anxious to
do a great deal of road work this
year, and for that reason no effort
was made to reduce the tax rate.
The county Is to, take a dumber of
felony convicts for road duty and
that will Involve some cost tc get
the system started.
A Paying Investment.

Cotton Comes In Rapidly.
Sea Islar.d cotton contln -os to roll
Into market In a hurry. The cotton
district was filled with loaded wag
ons this morning and buying was go
ing on rapidly. There has been no
material change In the price of tho
staple and the demand acorns to be
quite active.
There has been a slump In tho
price of short cotton due to the clos
ing down of four hundred cotton
mills la England yesterday. How
long these mills will remain closed
remains to be seen. It Is likely that
the market will be effected by the
shut-down as long as they are closed.

CONSTIPATION creates a
DARK OUTLOOK
It is the most common of physical Ills. Most
doctors would have to go out of business If neg
lected constipation didn’t make work for them.
Lamar's Lemon Laxative is a sure cure tor this disordered
condition of liver, stomach and bowels. It Is a natural remedy
working in nature’s way, not with sudden and exhaustive violence,
but gently and gradually. It does not weaken like other remedies,
but invigorates the bowels, leads to normal and healthful action.
