THE SPINNERS TO MEET.
Gov. Hughes of New York to Deliver
the Address of Welcome.
Saratoga Springs, Sept. 29.—Got.
ernor Hughes has promised to deliver
the address of welcome at the semi'
annual meeting of the National Asso
ciation of Cotton Manufacturers,
which Will be held here, September
29th and 30th.
The officers of the association are:
Charles T. Blunkett, Adams, Massa
chusetts, President, George Otis Dra
per, Hopedale, Mass., and Franklin
W. Hobbs, Boston, Massachusetts,
Vice President, C. J. H. Woodbury,
Boston, Secretary and Treasurer, O.
L. Roberts, Auditor.
The association was first establish
ed In 1854, as the Hampden oounty
Cotton Spinners’ Association. In 1885,
It became the New England Cotton
Manufacturers' Association, changing
to Its present name In 1908.
It has nearly one thousand mem
bers, many of whom are In foreign
countries. These members represent
a capital Invested In Cotton Manufac
turing of nearly $735,000,000.
Among the topics to be discussed
at the coming meeting are: “Impor
tance of Forest Preservation;" "Cot
ton Fibre Substance and Textile
Fibres and their Consumers."
The association will devote no lit
tle time, during the meeting, to
trips to points of Interest. There will
be an excursion to Lake George, on
October 1st, Immediately following
the meeting.
The delegates have also been in
vited to Visit the General Electrlo
Works at Schenectady.

BOOST CATTLE RAISING.
A Live 8tock Exhibition to Give Im
petus to the Movement.
Atlanta, Ga., SepL 30—Cattle rais
ing In Georgia will be greatly boost
ed by Teason of the live stock exhib
it which Is being gotten together for
the State Fair, to be held In Atlanta
October 8th to the 24th. Entries to
this show, which will occupy conspi
cuous buildings on the grounds, will
be received dally and the Indications
are that every section of the state
will be represented, showing various
kinds of cattle that are raised
throughout Georgia. In addition,
there will be a number of foreign
entries from sister states where cat
tle raising has been successfully
carried on for a number of years.
The recent Increase In the cost of
western meat has caused the South
ern farmer to look more and more
to his own farm for beef, hogs, sheep
and other edible animals. Those
who have been raising beef cattle In
this state on a small Scale tor years
past have demonstrated that' It Is
Cheaper .arid more satisfactory
raise meat on the farm than to pay
the exhorbltant prices charged by
the meat trust. Especially Is this
true since stock raisers have come
to realize the great value from their
own products—cotton seed meal and
bulls as a cattle feed. It has been
shown that not only Is the feed of
cotton Beed meal and bulls the cheap
est feed to be had, but that It will al
so fatten cattle more rapidly than
anything else.
The Indications are that this In
dustry will be more extensively prac
ticed next year than ever before.
Mr. Taft was sorry the Vermont
majority was so large, for It would
have a tendency to create overconfi
dence. He ought to be pleased with
the result In Maine, which looks like
a sure Democratic victory.
A Bold Step.
Ts overcome the well-grounded and
reasonable objections of the more Intel
ligent to the use of secret, medicinal com
pounds, Dr. B. V. Pierce, of Buffalo, N.
Y., some time ego, decided to make a bold
departure bum the usual course pursued
jif the makers of put-up medicines for do
mestic use, and, so has published broad
cast and openly to the whole world, a full

Lower Prices to be Put en by Val
dosta Laundries on Oct. 1st.
The Star Steam Laundry and the
Valdosta Steam Laundry this week
announces some big reductions In the
prices of laundry work, to go Into el-
feet on October 1st. Prices for men’s
shirts of all kinds, except plaited,
have been reduced from 12)4 o to 10
cents, and men's underwear from 8o
to 5c. In addition to this reduction
a still further discount Is given to
those who give the laundries all of
their work. Apply for terms.
The prices for family laundrylng
have also been cut materially, and to
those families who favor the laun
dries with all of their work a rate of
one cent for all flat work, will be
given. This Includes sheets, pillow
slips, towels, napkins, tablecloths,
etc.
Like all other business enterprises,
the laundries have felt the depres
sion brought by tho hard times. Their
business has decreased, and the point
has been reached when the managers
of the laundries have deolded to do
work at a lower rate than ever be
fore, If by doing so they can- keep
their machinery and employees busy.
The reduced prices, conpled with ths
excellent work and the reliability af
forded by the steam laundries ought
to result in a much larger patronage
by the people of the city.
This waiting for the fickle wash
woman on Monday mornings (the
wait that sometimes lasts all ths
week) with Its annoyances, Is done
away with when the steam laundry
Is patronised, and the very reasoa-
abte prices put on by the laundries
will no doubt result In a great many
people patronising them who hive
not heretofore done so.
