8UDDEN DEATH AT MOULTRIE!
Mr. M. A. Whittaker Patted Away
In Hit 1.00m at the Hotel.
Mr. M. A. Whittaker died suddenly
in his room at the Hotel Colquitt
Saturday night near mld-nlght. His
death came with tragic suddenness,
he having been walking about the
hotel thirty minutes before the breath
left.
Mr. Whittaker has been a resident
of Moultrie for about two years, hut
he has spent only a portion of his
time here. Mrs. Whittaker has been
•the proprietress of the Hotel Col
quitt, and he spent a good portion of
his time at their future home In VI-
dalla looking after business. Re
cently he has been a sufferer from
rheumatism and has visited several
springs. The past six weeks he has
been In Moultrie and getting along
Borne better. Saturday night he waa
about the hotel In his usual health
and retired about eleven o'clock.
Soon after entering hla room he waa
heard to call for assistance and Mr*.
Whittaker entering at once found
him lying across the bed half un
dressed and speechless. He lived
about twenty minutes but never
spoke to anyone.
The sudden death was a severe
shock to the family and friends and
guests at the hotel.
The funeral occurred this morning
at half past ten o'clock from the par
lor of the hotel. Rev. Carl Minor,
pastor of the Baptist church, conduct
ed the services at home and at the
cemetery the Masons had charge of
the services.

Charms of Dakota for Divorcees.
Sioux Palls, 8. D., Nov. 3—As a re
sult of the election In South Dakota
today this state will very likely lose
the lucrative patronage of the mat
rimonial misfits, who for some years
have flocked here In large numbers
to obtain quick divorcee. The voters
today are passing upon a law sub
mitted to them under the Initiative
and referendum, providing that di
vorces shall not be granted to any
person married outside the state who
has not resided In South Dakota for
one year. Heretofore only alx month's
residence has been required.
Of the 552 divorces granted In
South Dakota Ipst year,' 364 were to
non-realdenta, every one of' whom
came here for the purpose of a di
vorce. Of the total number, 134 were
Issued In Sioux Falls, the chief di
vorce center. The enactment of the
proposed law Is expected to reduce
| rho number of divorces In South Da
kota to less than 200 years.

for the funeral and a daughter, Miss
! Mary Whittaker, who was In school
j at Atlanta, came home last night. A
j brother, G. W. Whittaker, of Macon,
was here also to the funeral.
Mr. Whittaker wag fifty-four years
old, was a member of the Baptist
church and a Mason. He Is surviv-
ed by a wife and six children.—Moul

San Francisco, Cal., Nov. 3.—Mrs.
Katherine Lent Stevenson, president
of the Massachusetts W. C. T. U.,
sailed from this city today for & tour
of the world In the interest of the
national leaders. Her first stopping
place will be Honolulu. She will
reach ChSi the first of the year and
will participate In the anti-opium con
gress that will meet in Shanghai.
Japan and China will also be visited.
