NICHOLAS OFFUTT ON TRIAL
FOR THE MURDER OF FRANK
KRETZEMER IN MARYLAND.
Rockville, Md„ Jan. 12—The ease
of Nicholas Offutt, charged with the
murder of Frank Kretxemer, waa
called for trial today In tbe circuit
court. Both the accused young
and his victim were well known In
this vicinity and ai a result tbe trial
will be followed with considerable
Interest.
The Jdlling of Kratzemer, who was
a store-keeper, resulted from a chil
dren's prank. Several girls, among
them the young sitter of Offutt, en
tered Kretxemer’s store, to play a
prank on the storekeeper. Tbe lat
ter Is snld to have playfully resented
the Intrusion of the girls and one of
them told Offutt that Kretxemer had
Insulted hls sister. The young man
hastened to tbe store and without
warning shot and killed Kretiemer.
The young man fled tor New York,
but was captured n few days later
and returned for trial.
