Marshall Lewis, the negro who
shot Assistant Postmaster Ruther
ford at Lenox yesorday morning
and who was later arrested by Mar
shal Mullls, of Adel, was carried to
Savannah this morning by Deputy
Sheriff Wshlngton for confinement
in the Jail there.
The negro was brought to this
city last night by Sheriff Avera, of
Berrien county, who came down ,
from Lenox on the train with thei
Infuriated citixcns .of that section
yesterday afternoon. Sheriff Avera
had. In his chrge at the time the
other negro who was arrested at
Lenox on the charge of being Impli
cated In tho killing.
When he reached Adel, he got a
hack and hurried through the coun
try to Naahlvlle aj fast as he could
wheel It off. In the meantime, the
real murderer had already been sent
to Nashville! The people yho came
down (to Adel decided to go to Nash-'
ville and many of them .started on! the'^piln which left here at six
