MANY IMPORTANT ACTS BY
HOUSE AND SENATE TODAY
Atlanta, Oa., July 14.—The senate today passed a bill
making it a misdemeanor to slander any virtuous female.
Also a bill prohibiting the sale of trading stamps in the
state.
There was a favorable committee recommendation on
Jhe bill for biennial sessions of the legislature.
The house tabled the bill to appropriate the near beer
tax to the common schools.
Bills were introduced in the house to stop foot ball
and baseball in colleges.
The McLendon hearing continued this morning with
the examination of several witnesses.
Partisan lines have cropped out An objection came
when Commissioner Hillyer was asked if party platforms
and pledges should govern his action as commissioner or
the law and the evidence.

NINE PEOPLE HORRIBLY BURNED
IN AUTOMOBILE EXPLOSION.

Oa., says:
Ihe most horrible accident that
baa happened In connection with an
automobile sines these machines
were introduced In this section, hap
pened yesterday afternoon at Jack-
sonboro bridge, live miles from Byl-
vanla, when a White Steamer horn
ed.
Nine people were liadiy burned
and two of them will die. One death
has already resulted.'

Mr. Hill and his wife were com
plimenting the young people with a
picnic at the bridge. When the pic
nic ground* were reached the yonng
people crowdd Into the machine,
which In some way barked against
the bridge, the railing uf which tore
