Dray was Turned Ovsr and. Cotton
Gin Fell on Horse^k -
(From Wednesday's tiau£)
It was not a runaway affair this
morning, but rather a dumping
stunt, when a dray driven 'by,-a ne
gro 1 was turned over on Phtterson
street. The result Is a sea Island
cotton gin is lying near tho curbing
on the street, the dray .is some
what broken and the horse hurt,
but not seriously.
The gin was being carried to the
Coast Line depot on one ot -Ham
Bros, drays, when It Is said by care
lees driving the left front wheel was
allowed to strike the corner ot the
curbing near the Merchants Bank.
In an efforts carry the load on, the
horse made • special pull, but
the dray beiRtf^maght on the
curbing, did not*' move and the
horse swerved arodA till his head
was turned almost back towards the
dray. This unbalanced the load and
the dray In some manner turned
over, the gin. sliding off and strik
ing the horse's hind legs.
It was such a quick sod strung]
mix-up that no one who saw it
seemed to be able to give exact do
tails. The ’ horse in his efforts,
broke the hamestrlg and came
out from under the wreck, but n»t
without some severe bruises and
scratches. The shafts were broken
from the dray but the gin, although
falling on the solid pavement, was
not damaged.
