• New York^Bept 29—Both Wright
and Curtiss made preliminary
flights over Jlovernors Island thU'j
morning. - . j
Curtiss remained aloft. Use mln-l
utes, and Wright ten minutes. BotV
expect to make longer .flights , this
afternoon.
Wright captured the morning hon-.
ors by circling the Statue of Llber-^
ty, flying above Governor’s Island,
and overthe North river. The whole
city hearing of the flight, buslnea'
was practically suspended;' the peo
pie going to the tope ot buildings
and places of advantage to watch
the airships.
Wright again circled the Liberty
statute and flew about three hun
dred feet high over the bay and
North river. The shipping in the
river saluted the air ships with
whistles and cheering. .
It Is estimated that Wright flew
fljly-elght miles an hour, which
breaks the record.
New York, Sept. 22—The dump
little ship, the Half Moon, after a
absence ot three hundred years
made Its second voyage up the Hud
son today. Beside her the' Cler
mont, a duplicate of the' first steam
boat. Both were convoyed by a
squadron of vessels. The Clermont
looked Insignificant beside the
giant battleship Inflexible.
| Thousands of people lined the
banks and tugs and shipping whis
tled their salutes.
Various, patriotic societies dedi
cated a' number of monuments and
tablets today. There are also boat
races and athletic contests for the
visiting crew. of the ships.
The-official banquet, under the
auspices of the Hudson-Fulton
Commission, takes place tonight at
the Hotel Astor.
Included among the events of tb«
day were rowing races on the Hudson
between crews of the foreign and
American warships, commemorative
exercises at the City Hall under the
auspices of the National Society of
Patriotic Women of America, speolal
exercises In colleges and publlo
schools, and historical parade In the
