The sudden storm which came up

Our AtUnta dispatches yesterday
announced that Mr. Charles
Shelton, formerly of Valdosta, had
resigned as secretary to Judge Pow
ell, of the Court of Appeals, and
would enter tho practice of law In
Atlanta. Mr. Shelton la one of the
brightest young men that ever went
out of this olty, and his friends
predict s brilliant career for him

Mrs. A. E. Dlmmock has returned
from a very pleasant vlsto to Atlan
ta and Cedartown.
Mr. Alex McCormick, of Darling
ton, Fla., was a visitor In the city
last night
Mrs. Y. R. Beasley will leave
shortly for an extended trip through
the northwest. Mrs. Beasley ex
pects to ha gone soma time and ex
pects to visit friends In Ohio and
Indiana before returning home.
Death'of Mrs. Jons*.
- Mre: Mailer Jonee died at her home
at' Adel early Sunday morning after
an lllneae lasting for about a weak.
Mrs. Jonhs wae on* of the moat
prominent women of her town and
community, and was loved end re-
■peeled by el) who knew her.
She Is survived by her husband
and nine ohlldren. Mr. Charles Jones
of Valdosta, being the oldest child.
Besides these the leaves numerous
relatives both In Berrien knd Lownde*
counties. Her mothe>, Mrs. Mary
Webb, lives near -Lois, In Berrien
county.
She wae a consecrated Christian and
a member of the Primitive Baptist
church.
The funeral servloe was held at the
Primitive Baptist church at Adel Sun
day afternoon, and was oonduobtd
by Elder J. B. Luke. Her remains
were laid to rest In the cemetery at
Adel

The smoker to be given at the Odd
Fellow hell by the membeflt of that
order tomorrow night promises to be
a most Interesting affair.
Preparations are being made for
serving refreshments In abundance

by members of the order will be
made.

tober, the Woodmen of the World,
will give a banquet which they expect
will eclipse anything of the kind yet
gven at ther hall.

they are already hard at WSrk.
Every Woodman in the olty will he
expected to attend, and enjoy the
banquet, and It Is expected a large
crowd will be present.

Death of Mr*. J. A. Swilley.
Mre. Swilley, wlf* of Mr. J. A.
Swilley, of Echols county, died at
her bom* near Jennings, Fla., on
Monday, after a long Illness. Mrs.
Swilley suffered an attack of measle*
last spring and had been an Invalid
[from that time.
The deceased wae a daughter of
