The school trustees tonight elected
Roland D. Daniel of Valdbsta. who
la superintendent of the schools
there, to succeed Mr. Gibson, and
he has accepted. Mr. Daniel la secre
tary of the Georgia Educational As
sociation.
Mr. Daniel said that It la true
he was elected Superintendent of the
Columbus Schools last night, bat
that It la not true that he has accep
ted. He said that he could not.ac
cept there until hla resignation had
been tendered and accepted here.
Ho admitted, however, that the
Board of Education here would meet
tomorrow and that he would then
ask to be released.
Mr. _Danlel knew nothing of the
prospective change In Columbns
•until last Saturday, when he receiv
ed a communication from Mr. Gun-
by, Jordan, President of the Board
of Education, asking him to come to
Columbns and confer with him re
garding the place. Before accepting
Mr. Jordan's Invitation Mr. Daniel,
showed this confidential communt-
catlon to the President of the BoaTd,
Col. B. P. S. Denmark, not wishing
to take any step toward leaving
here without the knowledge Af the
•official head of the Board.
The offer in Columbus Is a very
flattering one and one that came
-entirely unsolicited on Mr. Daniel’s
part The Columbus Schools are
considered among the very best In
the South.
Mr. Daniel expressed regret at tho
thought of leaving Vnldosta. He
hss been here more than six yoars
and Is attached both to tho work of
the schools and to the community.
Under his supervision the public
schools of Valdosta have oecome
among the very best to be found In
any city In Georgia. During his ad
ministration the handsome new high
school building has been bnllt, and
the natural Increase In school atten
dance has boon more than kept
pace with by Improvements In tha
system, In discipline and in the
mutual co-operation of patrons and
faculty.
Valdostans will sincerely regret

tistic creation of mustard green

a pompadour silk facing and an
enormous green bird with cloth of
gold rosette on left side.

Mr. J. P. Ulmor happened to a
very palnfnl accident this moraine
while at work In his shop on Hill
Avenue.
Mr. Ulmer, aaslsted by Mr. Jack
Johnson, was patting on a tire on
the wheel of a timber cart Some
how, before the tire had been fat
tened on. It slipped off and fell on
Mr. Ulmer, injuring one of Els hand*
cutting an ugly gash over one of his
eyes and knocked him unconscious
for some time. Mr. Johnson r/as
also knocked dow n by the heavy
tire, but was not Injured.
Dr. J. C. Wilson was called'and
dressed Mr. Ulmer's wounds, taking
teveral stitches on the, * gash over
