MEETING OF
PRESBYTERY
First Session Held at the Pres-
b)terian Church Last Night

The opening session of the Savan
nah Presbytery which convened
with the Presbyterian church here
last night, was attended by a good
sized congregation and was an In
teresting meeting throughout
Delegates were here from all over
the territory Included In the Pres
bytery, and quite a number of visi
tors were present
The exercises were opened by the
pastor Dr. 0. L. Bltxor, who read
a lesson from the sixth chapter of
the gospel by Mark, after which the
congregation was led in prayer by
Rev. W. 8. Mllen, of Darien. Beau
tiful and appropriate music waa ren
dered by the choir.
Dr. A. X., Patterson of Blackshear,
who preached the Introductory
sermon, wag Introduced by Dr. Bit
ter, who assured the messengers and
visitors that they were fn the hands
of a church and city who are glad
to welcome such a body of represen
tative church people and bade them
God-speed In the work before the
body. Dr.) Bltzer said the ladles of
the congregation had taken special
pains to sit .the church In order, as
well as their homes, tor the enter
tainment of the visitors.
Dr, Patterson’s text was taken
from Mark, 8th chapter and part of
the 3Sth verse. The words of the

After the sermon, the organisa
tion of the Presbytery was the next
thing fn order. The former modera
tor being absent, Rev. W. 8. Harden

the choice of Rev. Charles Mont
gomery, of Mt. Vernon for modera
tor and Dr. A. L. Patterson of Black-
shear, clerk.

the last session of the Presbyter,
until this morning,

hour for re-assembling this morn

State Fair Car in Town.
The advertising ear which Is be
ing sent on a tour of the state b, the
Macon Fair Association and The Ma
con Telegraph, advertising the State
Fair at Macon to he held October
17th to November 8th, reached Val
dosta this morning from Quitman.
With the ear are Messrs. W. E.
Pendleton, of The Telegraph and W.
A Dickinson and L. B. Havell, of the
Fair. They have covered South Geor
gia very thoroughly and are delight
ed at the Interest being shown b,
the people in the approaching fair.

aeronaut, and winner of 'be first
and second pities In the St. Ixmls
International Flying Ship contest.
Is In Valdosta today, conferring with
the directors of the Board of Trade,
relative to a series of flights here
with his airship during the Trade
Week the Board of Trade has been
discussing.
Mr. Strobel met the board of di
rectors at the City Hall at ten
o'clock this morning and made
them a proposition for bis appear
ance here during the second week In
November. The contract under con
sideration calls for three flights a
day, for five days. There will be
one flight each morning, one In the
afternoon and one at night. Mr.
Strobel has the same contract with
Savannah which he had submitted
for his appearance In Valdosta.
Mr. Strobel’s flights are entirely
different from the old-time balloon
ascension. His Immense airships
are very much on tho order of the
famous German flying machines of
Count Zeppelin, and are under ab
solute control of the operator, who
whizzes through the air at railroad
speed and In any direction desired.
A committee was appointed after
the meeting this morning to make
s canvass of the city and ascertain
If the funds necessary to secure this
splendid attraction can be secured.

position of Commercial Agent of
that road with headquarters at Cor-
dele and will more with his family
to that place about the 20th of this
month.
While the many friends of . Mr.
Harris congratulate him on hl4 pro
motion, they regret to lose him and
hl B family from Valdosta.
It la understood that Ifd.. W. H.
Albright will succeed Mr. Harris as
cashier here.
