dent of Mercer University, was con
sidered one of-the strongest of the
kind ever heard’in Valdosta.

people to give their loyal support to
the Oak Lawn Academy, to Mercer
University and to Besslg Tift and
Shorter Colleges.

The Indications are that Lake
Parjt will soon have a telephone
system. The citizens of that place
met In the drug store of Prescott
Broq .Jdonday night far the purpose
ilng the new enterprise.

was decided that a company
would be organized to be known as
the Lake Park Telephone Company,
and that the system would he bnllt
and operated on a mutual baala. A
committee composed of Messrs.
Zant Prescott, White and Fry were
appointed to solicit subscriptions to
the stock of the company. A sec
ond meeting will be held tonight, at
which time a definite policy will be
decided upon, permanent officers
elected and arrangements made to
begin work.
It la expected that the system will
commence with flfteeh or twenty
aubserlbera In the town. Several
country lines are also being project
ed, which when built, will connect
with Lake Park. Messrs. J. C. King,
H. Bridges, Tom High and other*
of the Corinth section will take the
matter up at once.
The Installation of this system
will mean a great deal to the town
of Lake Park as well as to the coun
try adjacent thereto. .The merch
ant, the physician, the farmer and
those In other vocations will be
brought closer together. The sub-
aertbers to thlg system will also be
able to communicate with Valdosta
and other points on the long dls-
ance lines directly from their places
of business and residences as ar
rangement win be made to this end

be elected within a few days', or q
few weeks, It la believed by the
Board that he may not be able to
come to Valdosta before the first of
January, If he la now at the head
of some other school system It la
not likely that the man who may ba
elected will be able to lay down the
work In which ha may be now en
gaged on such abort notice.
Mr. Daniel leaves tonight for
Colnmbua, in order to meet the re
tiring superintendent there, Prof.
Chapman, before be goes out of of
fice on Monday. Today Is therefore

At the meeting of the board lasrt
night an advance of ten per cent was

Harrell had an affair of the heart
which met with much parental ob

About supper time the young lady
met Mr. Harrell al he waa going
home and they -were walking on the
street together. They met the
young lady’s mother. Who was look
ing for them, end who bitterly re
proached them for disobedience, and
told the young lady she would have
fa choos» between her sweetheart

were married, the girl wearing a

bareheaded. Mr. Harrell Is an em
